On further examination of my opposite scale, sitting in a tree there's a pointy-nosed animal with big green ears and black eyes. No I haven't been smoking anything in case you're wondering.

Re: C152RN Raffir Noble Chaparral Showcase...POST YOURS UP!!!

c01.jpg c04.jpg With some it seems you could view them in the same way one can look at clouds and let your imagination run. On one side I can see a spider (logo) coming out of his lair, which is shown like an transparent ant farm display. Haven't come up with anything for the other side yet. I thin...

Re: Amsterdam Meet 2016 Report of Spyderco Prototypes

Like the Rhino. Handle length is nearly the same as the Chaparral; take away most of the ricasso of the Chaparral and stretch the index finger groove. Echoes of the Lil Temp not just from the blade but also the fatter handle end, albeit with a single finger groove instead of two. Thanks for the pics...

Re: multi-color Carbon Fiber?

I'm not a chemist or materials scientist, I don't know if carbon in its various elemental forms can correctly be referred to as reflecting no color. It makes sense to think of carbon as a constituent of coal or oil as black, but I believe coal is also naturally brown as well as black. I believe your...

Re: multi-color Carbon Fiber?

Like the CF on that Domino. Thanks for those links, some very interesting and intricate samples. So many possibilities, but it seems that it's mostly small independent businesses, providing custom products, that are willing to offer more adventurous patterns or multiple colors. If you browse a site ...

Re: multi-color Carbon Fiber?

The most creative work I've seen using carbon fiber as a medium is at Emerald Guitars: http://www.emeraldguitars.com/custom/" target="_blank I don't own one, but Alistair Hay, the driving force behind those instruments, seems to have really explored the possibilities. I've seen images like...

multi-color Carbon Fiber?

I just picked the CF Chaparral, my first Spyderco since the G-10 Jester sprint, what a nice gents folder. I could see getting more of this model in the future. However I no longer splurge on knives with Ti scales -- even if attractively sculpted or colored. This leads me to wonder if Spyderco might ...

> Not a very fair comparison in my humble opinion... I specifically chose two small knives of nearly equal size, that are of the same class, so to speak. That's unfair? I believe the Spydies you cited as alternatives are an apples to oranges comparison to the Osprey. Since we are talking really smal...

> That said, I don't know if they are "undisputed". On a literal level ... I agree; another area of dispute would be, for lack of a better way of putting it, gents bling. Consider for example the AMK Osprey. It's a traditional folder that pushes no boundaries in blade or handle design. Han...

Haven't bought any knives since the last Jester sprint, but I'm in for this whatever the color, since to me Jester is unrivaled as the coolest little knife ever. Pardon my ignorance, but is it possible to have FRN in greenish camo or Lil Temp green?

IMHO no one needs to explain or justify knife ownership or non usage. To state the obvious, we all have our reasons. However, I differ with those who admonish collectors. In my view one isn't "enlightened" just because he uses his knives. That can be a very contrived justification, because...

Perhaps a mention of the forum's "usage" police is appropriate in this thread -- the boorish compliments or castigations based on whether someone is perceived as a "user" or a "collector." One sees the tedious and presumptuous (in my opinion) comments from the usage pol...

Another mini film review. Rented the 2010 Japanese samurai film titled 13 Assassins. Film played in this year's San Francisco Film Festival. The title characters embark on a one-way mission, facing nearly 20-to-1 odds, to try to assassinate the Shogun's sadistic half brother (who kills and maims wom...

film fight scene

Streamed a 2010 Korean film titled "The Man from Nowhere" on Netflix. Hero is a secret govt/military agent, out of action, grieving over wife's death, running a pawn shop. Bad guys go after a street kid he has befriended and many bad guys bite the dust as a result. Some over the top one-vs...

It evens out over time as others have said. Good fortune in what you paid/sold is often luck and timing. I once bought an Atwood whistle from the maker for around $50. I didn't intend to resell it, but I didn't use it. At a certain point the maker stopped making them, and said there would be no more...

I once had a few of the Sermollan-handled knives, but I let those go, so I can't compare the appearance of the steel. Another possible clue -- the store's price sticker was $65, which I assume was the MSRP. Could be that price was different for the first run and subsequent runs? Examining the images...

Thanks. I found a discussion thread last night (can't find it now, I think it was an external forum) from which I copied and saved the text below. The discussion about the Yin/Yang seemed to suggest an experimental first run of a few hundred of MBS-26: ***** Hi Sid. The pair were an experiment in ki...

Yin kitchen knife - steel type

Found a K06 Yin kitchen knife at a local store. I vaguely remembered reading about this knife, but since I like my kitchen knives, my first thought was buy and flip, and it was marked down to boot. Looking it over, flipping it might be hasty, it looks like a very good knife. I've used a MAC and a Ge...

You probably need to buy a Sebenza to satisfy that question to your own satisfaction. Personally, if given a choice, I'd take a Ti ATR over a Sebenza just on design. Of course, this type of debate exists across the whole spectrum of knives, e.g., some compare CRKs to customs in terms of quality, pre...

I've owned Sebenzas and other CRK knives, but I think owning Spydies is more fun, in large part because of variety in design.
