To me Christmas is largely a state of mind. However, unfortunately over the past half century or so, it's generally become less of a blessed occasion of good will. EG- some 25 years ago some people at my former employer complained about the presence of a Christmas tree at work! I thought I solved th...

Any "kit" that we would make, we would have to put it together and then take it apart to ensure that everything is working properly. So it doesn't end up any cheaper. The next step was screw construction. That way one could mess with it or add/change materials. We're working on Bushcraft ...

My pleasure! And when you buy knives like Spyderco, there's really NO need to take any precautions when you open it, BTW. Believe me, the Viele will open and close SO many times before there's even visible wear to the lock that there's really no need for that. Enjoy your very fine knife! Holding th...

A. Make sure the knife's lock is functioning properly; else blade could close on your fingers. B. Stone should move from rear towards new point. C. Coarse stones can remove more material and generate less heat. Use coarse first and finish with finer stones / abrasives. D. The thinner the material th...

Coffeeman - Not quite sure if you are looking for a carry sheath of good quality leather or some type of storage. For carry check out the sheaths at L.L. Bean outdoor gear. LL Bean Sheaths I have a couple and they are very serviceable and go vertical and horizontal. For long term storage, I just ge...

Cute /adorable looking kid. I don't always agree with Jd's ideas but in this case I think he's dead on. The only time I've encountered a problem like the one you described was with people suffering from c2o (carbon monoxide)poisoning. However I believe that kind of problem is accompanied by a lower ...

Alternatives to Tandycraft

Years ago I used to buy leather crafting materials form Tandycraft. Since then I have concluded that chrome tanned leather is better suited to my needs for knife sheaths, Can any of you folks recommend a good mail order source for chrome tanned leather?

Seems that finishes like the stone wash can become a problem when one wants to polish out scratches.

Your original inquiry did not mention any fashion parameters :D I personally don't have the shredded pants problem, either because I am not constantly removing/replacing a knife or because I only have FRN and SS :spyder: at the moment .. no G10 or CF. I'm about as fashion conscious as the typical c...

Maybe something like this (seen on EDC Forums the other day)? http://www.bladekeeper.com/ The bladekeeper is reminiscent of the pocket protectors disparagingly referred to as the mark of a nerd. The website certainly illustrates pocket wear & tear. For the time being, I ordered a knife pouch fr...

Touche. But the pressure of the clip is sufficient to abrade cloth. That pressure is far in excess of that exerted by a watch of watch band which will mess up a shirt cuff,

Aside from wearing cast iron pants

What can be done to minimize the wear and tear on one's pants pockets, waist band., etc. that's caused by Spydie clips and the grippy scales?

Sorry to hear that. Do you know the month and year of manufacture. It’s the two letters on the right side of the barcode label of the box. For example my millie's is HE (08/05).

It's the typical YMMV. I've had S30V chip out on plastic dog treat bags that are not a trying or difficult cut for any kind of steel, muck less a "Super" steel. After a quick sharpening I saw the edge was chipping where I sharpened the knife. It's the only one I've ever had do that to me ...

154CM IIRC was the first of the "Super Steels". While not a big fan of it, time has shown it to be a winner. However, when overbaked, it has been shown to fully break by a process I believe is called hydrocracking. Do you know Spyderco's hardness of S60V? I have found in experience it is ...
