Perrin bowies : Hard to find?
When the Perrin bowie came out, I adopted a sort of offhand intention to buy one at a later date. I kept putting it off, and even when Spydeco discontinued this knife, I let things slide. First they were to be had in great abundance, and then just the black-bladed version ... and now I've done a ...

RE: the Ayoob & Almite
I find that the pistol-grip design of the Ayoob means that the relatively slippery qualities of Almite don't make much difference. If you hold the knife in a saber grip with your thumb against the hump at the base of the spine then I've found that even when my hands are slick ...

Almite wearing off
I was wondering if anyone has got any tips on how to refinish or minimize wear-and-tear on the Ayoob's almite finish.
I know it's supposed to be tough and scratch proof, but after a few months of EDC I can see a grey outline along the edges of the knife where the almite seems to be wearing off ...

Personally, the security on my campus don't even like me running across front square so they'd probably be very upset if they ever saw my Chinook.
I find that the main problem with carry is redirecting the curiosity of fellow students away from the knife.

Hi Freshman-
I'm going into my fourth and final year as a philosophy student in Dublin. College re-starts in a couple of weeks. I just got back from New York City two nights ago, so I'm taking it easy until then.
Irish society is extremely weapon-conscious, so I have to be extrememly discreet if I ...

Hi-
Some Spyderco designs like the Starmate and Military seem to me to follow more traditional tactical designs, but three of the newer designs appear to offer features that might be relevant to someone with a lot of training:-

Impressions of the Masaad Ayoob folder (long!)
Hi all-
A few weeks ago I was contemplating buying a Masaad Ayoob folder, but put it off in favour of a more traditional design with conventional angle of blade, firm grip and larger blade mass. I thought I was doing the sensible thing, after considering what I felt were 'caveats' of the Ayoob ...

While it's probably astronomically unlikely that a hypothetical attacker is going to be even half as competent as someone like Danny Inosanto, I think murphy's law dictates that you prepare for the worst possible scenario.
In my opinion preparation beings with training and mind-set, with model of ...

Ayoob folder?
Hi all-
I'm aware that there has already been at least one thread on the subject of Massad Ayoob's spyderco folder, but I was interested in hearing some more opinions as I have been looking at a plainedge model in NY's Paragon sports.
Does anyone out there have any more comments regarding the ...

Newbie question re: tip up/tip down
Hi all-
I'm sure this question has been asked and answered a hundred times over, so I'll apologize in advance. I am inexperienced about folders, and I was wondering what the pros and cons of the tip-up and tip-down designs are- in terms of speed of presentation, safety, ease of carry etc ...
