Re: Cruwear vs. S35VN
CPM Cru Wear is much tougher than S35VN. Regular Cruwear is a little harder to predict how it compares, probably similar. Cru Wear also has a greater potential for hardness than S35VN. Wear resistance of S35VN is a little better. I’m confused, because I thought that wear resistance was a function o...

Re: Why not more Bolt Action locks?
Hi Evil, Mostly it's a demand issue, or lack of. We're not hurting for locks and though Blackie Collin's Bolt Action is a brilliant design, it didn't fly off of the shelves for us. sal Unfortunately, I only just discovered that you even had a Bolt Action Lock offered on a Spyderco model. I would de...

Re: Proper Sharpening of Santoku (Sal or Taz)
I have a Spyderco Santoku that’s well more than 10 years old. I don’t know exactly what year I bought it in. I’ve sharpened it many times, freehand, on my Spyderco ceramic whetstone. • I don’t recall the knife being asymmetrically ground when new. • The first time I sharpened it, I probably reprofil...

Re: Employment
I think if you exercise a little common sense within reason you can likely carry whatever you like in Oz albeit not legally. Really. OK. So what you’re saying is that you’re “free” to sneak around with items that you’ll be prosecuted for if you’re found carrying them. According to your laws, “you c...

Re: Employment
If you are working for an employer, you do not have the right to carry a knife to your place of work if their policy so states. I know that you stated this matter-of-factly, but to me it still comes across as agreement. I simply don’t agree that employers should have the prerogative of rendering em...

Re: New knife law hits london
There is a noticeable tendency to apply new restrictions in the name of "safety", especially here in Europe. I think that politicians could at least put some more effort into it, I mean, this is just plain nonsense: "No excuses: there is never a reason to carry a knife." And thi...

Britain going further out of their minds with anti-knife laws?
 I’ve been reading lately about the worsening crime rates in the U.K., and the U.K. government’s response. It’s been more of the same insanity. I’ve never made a secret of being absolutely opposed to weapon prohibition laws, and absolutely opposed to the notion of attempting to address crime pr...

Re: What do you want to see more of from Spyderco?
I would like to see more Ball Bearing Lock knives. I would like a return to the large steel ball, like the one on the Dodo, or even just the large ceramic ball. Do that on the Manix 2XL. I would like Spyderco to start grinding a choil at the heel of the blade, as some other manufacturers do, rather ...

Re: Bad Customer Service
I like the idea of a single serration instead of a choil. That way if material finds it's way in, it is cut. That's a pretty good idea. My preference would be to grind the serration on both sides, for symmetry. One of the big reasons I don't like serrations is that they're generally ground asymmetr...

Re: Bad Customer Service
The "j" shape near the ricasso is a big problem with spyderco as of late I hate to say. Something is going on with their method of sharpening lately, which is both removing way too much material and simultaneously terminating the plunge too early. Effectively leaving 1/16 to 1/8 (yes, I h...

Re: Which side of the washer should be lubed
Baby oil is usually just mineral oil with fragrance added. Mineral oil has many uses. I buy it in the laxative section of the drug store. Thank you for both of those bits of information. I didn't know either of those things; now I think I'll get some mineral oil to have on hand. By the way, would t...

Re: Neck Knives
So what about a Swick 4 in LC200, plain and serrated versions, comes with a necker Boltaron sheath and thin scales, but sold through normal distribution rather than consumer direct, realizing that this will raise the price. Thoughts?> sal Sal, thanks for considering this. I would love a Swick 4 lea...

Re: Neck Knives
I think neck knives are the worst possible solution to any problem involving a knife. If you are in an enviroment where you can carry a knife in plain view (hunting, camping, etc) why settle for small, hard to grip knife? In town, walking around with knife dangling from your neck is out of the question,u...

Re: Manix 3?
I would really like to see a return to the BBL . My Manix 2XL is my favorite folding knife. But I would prefer a nice big steel ball in it like on my Poliwog. Why do we have the choice of only the CBBL, and not the BBL? Why has the BBL been relegated to near nothingness? My guess is from all the co...

Re: Curious about strength and durability of ceramic BBL
I have a Manix 2 and a Manix 2XL. Honestly, since I've never taken them apart, I don't even know what kinds of ball bearings they have. If you look in between the handle scales with the blade not locked or closed, you can see the stainless steel-looking bearing ball. Cool, yep, there it is! :) Now ...

Re: Question on Manix 2 Lock
My biggest question is, "What happens if/when the plastic cage breaks: Does the ball fall out?"
I want to know if the knife becomes disabled if it loses its cage.

Re: Fish Hunter has arrived! :)
I haven't been keeping up with all the new steels in recent years, and have never been one of the guys who pays much attention to the minutiae of steel components and performance. I found out only recently that there's this "LC200N" steel that's similar to H1. What can you tell me about it...

Re: Fish Hunter has arrived! :)
I wish that more of the Salt line were offered with plain blades. There are lots of them that I like in terms of design, but they tend to come only with serrated blades, and that makes them non-starters for me. Can you sharpen serrations? I ask because once I figured out how to get Spyderco serrati...

Re: Question on Manix 2 Lock
I like the Manix 2, and my favorite personally owned knife is my Manix 2XL. Both have CBBLs, and I own both, but I would really love a switch to a plain Ball Bearing Lock for these knives. It would eliminate all worry about the potential for the polymer cage breaking. And come on, there is not a kni...
