I've got a Cricket on my bench, waiting to be engraved. Being able to take them apart makes it a lot easier to get a good solid set up. Vibration doesn't help while engraving, it causes lots of graver breakage.

Thanks guys. Deacon, good idea. I'm going to play around with it and see how it looks.

dete, I use a single point graver, just a miniature chisel, to do the cutting. I learned the hammer and chisel method first and then switched to a GRS Gravermax, http://www.grstools.com . Now, instead of me ...

bladese97,

Thanks. I'm a big WCC fan as well which is where some of the inspiration for the knife came from. I have a huge amount of respect for what Jesse does with steel. I've never met Jesse but I have spent time with Billy Lane who introduced me to Paul Cox and Joey Perse. All are great guys ...

Michael,
The Iron Cross was originally used as a medal of valor long before Hitler used it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Cross
It also has a long tradition of use in the biker community, not as a symbol of racism but of rebellion. I would never use a design element that I consider to be a ...

dialex and tony,
The outline is the only part that is cut out and it is beveled to the inside of the design. The bevel gives it a more 3D look. If you hold the knife in the right light, the flames actually look like they are raised.

I would have liked to relieve the flames but the time and cost ...

Something different

I thought some of you might get a kick out of this one. It's a Cara Cara CE with and iron cross and flames. The inside of the cross and flames is stippled, which gives the handles a little texture as well. There are a lot of people that probably won't like it but it was a fun project anyway. As ...

Thanks shike and jazz.
I did "ink" this one. It's actually just flat black paint, some guys use oil based printing ink as well. The background was cut down below the surface and smoothed out before it was stippled so it catches light very well on it's own. The engraving shows up better for the ...

anon, only about 5% of the work I do comes from local clients. The rest comes in from all over the country.

Deacon, Thank you very much.
Colt has a little bit about the different styles under the engraving section on their website. I don't know of any others at this point. I may have to bring this ...

Thank you very much everybody. Most of my work current work consists of doing English scroll on double rifles which has a fairly strict set of style rules. The Spydies let me stretch imagination a bit more. I've got a couple of Delica 4's, an Endura 3 and a Cricket that I'm going to scratch up for ...

Just finished

I finished this Delica 4, for a customer, last night. It's a pretty simple American scroll pattern with a relieved and stippled background. I'm happy with the way it came out. Please feel free to comment.

I've carried a waved Emerson Commander for about five years now and love the wave. I'm getting ready to order a waved Endura to carry and let the Commander rest for a while. Just be careful what you're wearing when you practice drawing the knife. I know a guy that sliced up a very nice suit coat by ...

New engraving (not a knife)

Hey everybody. I haven't posted any pics for a while and thought I would put this one up even though it's not a knife. It's a floorplate for a custom rifle that will be going to a PH in Botswana after SCI in Reno. Please feel free to comment.

Mostly cardboard and packaging tape, but pretty much anything that needs cutting. Even used a Delica SE to cut a sheet of drywall in a pinch.

Here is a closer shot. The work one it took about eight hours to go from drawing to what you see. The the cuts are done by hand with a very small chisel called a graver. The tip of the graver used for the heavier cuts like the outline and backbones of the scroll is only about .050" or 1/20th of an ...
