Well, the standard issue pistol prior to the P229 was the Beretta M9, but I'm not sure whether that fits your description either.

I didn't see the show, but I'd definitely do my best to help out if you had screen shot. To the best of my knowledge, the USCG standard sidearm is currently the SIG P229.

Please support me at the NKF Walk

I recently registered for the National Kidney Foundation's Kidney Walk, which is taking place on May 1st at Bergen Community College in Paramus, NJ. My father has been suffering from kidney problems for many years now, ever since a "cholesterol shower" caused renal failure following his ca...

Do you have any other criteria or a budget you're working within? If it were me, I'd opt for a MacBook. It's not exactly "basic", but has a bunch of features and should last your in-laws a number of years with very minimal upkeep. If you don't mind ordering online, you can currently find a...

Maybe look into a Mac?. This is definitely what I'd suggest. For right around $1000 you can get an Apple certified refurbished 21.5" Core i3 iMac from the Apple store. It will be extremely reliable, can handle all of the tasks you outlined, should serve you well for quite a long time, and (of ...

Sounds like it would be worth waiting for a Salt with new construction. It really all depends upon your preferences. Personally, I tend to appreciate pinned construction on many Spyderco knives, so the switch to Torx fasteners wouldn't necessarily draw me to a new model over my older Salt 1 (which ...

It wouldn't necessarily need to be similar, especially considering that there are also currently Ritter collaborations with Becker Knife and Tool, Lone Wolf, and CRKT.

Spyderco / Ritter collaboration?

I'm curious if the concept of a collaboration between Spyderco and Doug Ritter / Equipped To Survive has ever been considered. While most people immediately associate Mr. Ritter's knives with BM and the Griptilian, there are a number of other Ritter collaborations with different manufactures as well...

It also has quite a limited used by date. Seems to contradict the company's website: "In 1985 a bottle with BALLISTOL was found in an attic where it had been left for over 60 years. The oil had not hardened and the chemical analysis revealed that it still had the same degree of purity as fresh...

I did the same thing, but couldn't figure out how Spyderco could build a hydrogen-powered manganese slip-joint.

I'd definitely prefer the Native, as proceeds from the sale of the pink Native help fund Spyderco's donations to the Breast Cancer Network of Strength.

FRN may be as good a handle material, but the backspring of the FRN UKPK does not inspire the same degree of confidence as the G-10 version's. With the discussions I've read about this, and the fact that no one seems to prefer the softer spring, I wonder whether this was actually an intentional des...

Hi yosemite. In my opinion, the Spyderco Sharpmaker will be ideal for your needs. My one suggestion, however, would be to also purchase a set of the Spyderco diamond rods for the Sharpmaker if you plan to be frequently working with steels like ZDP-189.

I'd really like to see the Delica (or other 3" folder) become another test bed for new steels, similar to the way the Military seems to be used currently. Unfortunately, I have no interest in purchasing a Military due to its size, so the Delica would be ideal for me. I wouldn't even mind if the...
