Re: Forumites vs. Normals

If true, then it would make sense for Spyderco to ignore us completely, since we are not in any way representative of the marketplace. It would also follow that Sal's and Michael's presence on the forum is a complete waste of time. If a particular group of people are just irrelevant weirdos, you ig...

Re: Does blade finish affect corrosion in tool steel?

Blade finish also affects toughness of the blade - smoother finish means less grooves, smaller grooves. Every groove is a stress riser that decreases toughness.

Victorinox uses stainless steel, so does it really matter whether it is polished or not.
Ever heard about Spyderco Salt line and why it's not made of martensitic "stainless steel"? :winking-tongue

Re: Does blade finish affect corrosion in tool steel?

It is odd that Victorinox doesn't seem to want to tell us what blade steels they use as. You can find it here: https://www.victorinox.com/medias/?context=bWFzdGVyfHNlcnZpY2V8Mjc3NzA4fGFwcGxpY2F0aW9uL3BkZnxoZTMvaDI3LzEzNDA4ODM1MDQzMzU4L1FkLTAwMDQyX0VOLnBkZnw0MjQwMWJjMTljYzUzYzkzZDllYjcxNjg2YzQzM2E3M...

Re: subway bowie!

Where can i find msrp? Found it. 173€ retail price in Europe. The smallest custom knives by Fred Perrin are cheaper, lol! Really? In the US the Perrin knives made by Max Knives out of France are less expensive but his customs are at least double the price of the Spydercos. The smallest ones, called...

I made such backspacer myself, Sharp Guy made printed one, maybe he could share the 3D model?

Re: Chaparral QI #3

What does the knife weigh now, with the G10 back spacer you made and installed? I should've weighed mine (the steel back spacer) when I had it apart those years ago now. Right now I don't have a suitable scale, but I will check it. Now my Chaparral weights 55 g. I can't compare it to the steel back...

Re: Chaparral QI #3

Well....it was pretty easy to draw. It took 3 tries to get the holes to be the exact size I needed but it was a pretty easy project. Wow, that is nice! You can see the problem with using plastic for this particular back spacer. The lock spring is too strong and flexes the plastic. I was able to ove...

Re: Chaparral QI #3

Surprised the backspace weights was noticeable. But I always like to see these kind of DIY mods. There is more difference in the balance than in the weight. How did you deepen the clip slots? I’ve been thinking of doing this on mine. I have a milling machine so I may just clamp it down and use an e...

Chaparral QI #3

Few years ago I bought a Chaparral FRN. I had to do something with stiff lock right away. Moving the spring forward a bit solved the problem (I believe Spyderco hasn't changed that). That is QI #1. Next one - the clip. Deepening the grooves solved the problems with slipping and loosing tension (Spyd...

Re: Differences in corrosion resistance between analog steels

Corrosion resistance also depends on surface finish, which is different in Golden and Seki knives. A D2 steel blade that's been heat treated for corrosion resistance to have as much chromium in solution will resist corrosion significantly better than MagnaCut if it was heat treated for wear resistan...

PB is metal alloy, similar to steel (that also contains nonmetal - carbon).

According to Larrin, D2 has poor toughness. https://knifesteelnerds.com/2018/11/05/all-about-d2-steel-knives/ And in this application toughess is more important than edge retention. I"ve talked to one knifemaker recently about this very subject who told me that he found "S-7" tool st...

Just a thought? Linerless so the threads are tapped into the aluminium right?
Aluminium is pretty soft so interesting to see how long it will take before the steel screws from the clip will strip out the threads on the handle.

🤔
Many knives have threads in aluminium handles, it works fine.

Re: Is MAP pricing % changing come 2022?

I wonder if Spyderco has followed the enthusiast crowd too much. Aside from maybe the Tenacious LW there’s really nothing they can sell to the average consumer who needs a knife to cut things. Even that is steep for entry level. $70 for a Dragonfly! I think prices are a little bit ridiculous. $250 ...

Come on, the knife is a lemon but still a lot of people can fix such issues, it requires just a soldering iron treatment and bending the lock!
