I don't actually speak emoji, since I pre-date the PC, the internet, smartphones and text messaging. It just reminded me of a toddler down to the sniffles after throwing a screaming tantrum in WalMart because mommy wouldn't buy her a new toy.

I apologize for being snide, but the "Boo Hoo" emogi in this context just pisses me off. I was not referring to forum join date, but to the date of my first post in the first thread on Bladeforums when Sal proposed the Mule Team concept.

The SPY-27 is the only one that sold out in under a week, I can tell you that much.

I still think asking Spyderco for a utility knife is like asking Ferrari for a go-cart. We now return you to the fantasy in progress.

For what it's worth, I believe the handle will be the same, so current scales should work on it. Just the blade shape will be different is my understanding.

I would advise against starting with 4mm stock for that project.

Since most of the people I interact with daily should require adult supervision to be within 10 feet of a sharp object, I simply don't suggest knives.

Super steel blades would be more in Spyderco's philosophy, but they defeat the purpose of utility knives, which is disposable blades that you don't have to sharpen. If you are just going to sharpen it and keep using it, why not just use a real knife? The edge IS the knife. The rest is user interface...

I've flared them with a center punch and a ball pein hammer, but the proper tools aren't terribly expensive and make the job much easier.

Why spend hundreds of dollars on a well-designed knife with great ergonomics, made from premium materials with a blade of carefully selected high-performance steel honed to a razor edge when you do all the real work with a 5 cent utility knife blade? Something to consider regarding that sloppy, rattley fit. Not all utility knife blades are the same thickness. Crafting a holding mechanism that can deal with that isn't going to be easy.

It is a lot older than that (1990 or thereabout) but it looks like it is excellent condition. Those Kraton rubber inserts don't usually last this long. If the price is right for your budget, I'd say buy it.

Mine isn't pretty, but it works. Done in about half an hour with a heat gun, cordless drill and a bench vise. The top screw by the handle adjusts the tension.
