Someone should ask Kevin/spike what we could do help. It really would be a shame to lose this forum. I would join to help but that is impossible with the site down. Steven

Interesting blade shape relationship between Cold Steel and Spyderco models.

When I first discovered knives, I really bought and enjoyed many Cold Steel knives. The other day, I held up my 4 inch Nogales clip blade next to my Matriarch. SUPRISE! guess what I found???

Putting them edge to edge - cutting edge to cutting edge and they are almost a PERFECT match! The blade ...

Thanks for the explanation and the revisit Sal.

I appreciate your follow-up on this one. I still like the idea and the design; dedguy has made some great drawings - I hope he has the opportunity to follow up on this one.

Keep up your grand work Sal - you have my respect!

Deguy - keep going kid - I hope to make a prototype - if I do - I will ...

Sal - did not see your response.

kind of a short reply there......is that all you see - a push dagger? Kind of kills the idea - I really did not want it percieved that way - looking at all the other benefits of the design. What makes it a push dagger? Is there a limit to the degrees of the blade away from the handle that is the ...

dedguy and scott - now that you mention it..

I would like to see the thumb rest a little farther forward. I would like to see the rest with a gentler sweep; a little taller; and having the forward 'drop' just behind the handle side of the Spyderhole. This would keep the thumb in a more neutral position and provide the better leverage and ...

I really hope you contact Spyderco and get the papers going on this

Dedguy - What you have brought to live here, imho, along with Spydercos white-hat knive reputation, could really have an impact on working knives.

Sal - what do you think so far?

Good dialog - but the below quote is exactly why this design is coming along...

"When cutting with a bellied knife, your wrist has to be angled so the blade meets what you're cutting. That angled wrist can fatigue quite quickly. Also if the edge is not perfect, the blade will likely slip and cause injury."

Your comments here smcfalls13, are exactly why this idea came up. I ...

now we're talkin - opinion and debate is great.

My opinion known, I have to respectfully disagree with you smlcfalls13. I greatly prefer the energy transfer advantages provided by a full belly blade because is cuts easier that other shapes. If you read around I am a great fan of hawks, and in the further distant past, the Wharncliffs as well. But ...

I really think the Scorpius is one of the great, Great knives.

I recently bought my second one, and plan on buying a third - keeping the new ones in the glove boxes with my SE Enduras.
The one I carry is going to get some plastic surgery. I am going to laminate some BirdsEye maple on the handle, then try several different finished to protect the surface from ...

Spin!! and a personal note to dedguy

while I would recommend the new Spin as a great short blade EDC, I want to personally thank you for your talents bringing the 90 degree threads. You are making the whole idea come alive. Much gratitude. If you can send me a personal e-mail, I would like to call you. Let me know.

The reason I thought of a Scimitar shaped blade design when I originated this path is

to provide a true utility to the cutting. I wanted this knife to not rely on just the 1/8th of the blade tip. A leaf design would again force the user to bend their wrist to get the the cutting edge of the blade (not just using the blade tip).

If you look at the first dedguy drawing, or the knife ...

Thanks dedguy - got what Joe is talking about now ...

I did not have the leaf-patterned blade in mind at all; I was focussing on your 3rd blade, and the scimitar shape I sent in. I can see where the leaf pattern would make it taller..

So - Joe - -you have been around a long while.... got any ideas you can add to a design to make it more marketable ...

Good points concerning the Cobra Hood - both of them, but

what is stated about the hood catching on clothing is - and should be mind you - shaped with more tapered ends. The width also a legitimate concern. The Cobra Hoods on previous designs best fit their designs - but that does not mean the designs stays stagnant.

I also like the Cobra Hood in cold ...

When I look at my sketchs and dedguys - I don't see that the folded article is taller that any hawkbill.

I don't know how to put a sketch here yet - can you illustrate what you are thinking?

How about a Cobra Hood acting as a thumbrest

and a handle tip like the Scorpius;
G-10 handle,
PE and/or SE,
back lock, (recessed deeply)
Flat grind - BUT a full thickness spine up to the last 16th an inch,
a return to the Merlin arc (I like my Tasman, but find the arch a little too shallow), and VG-10 steel.

Well Santa,, um,... er.. Sal ...

RIGHT - ON Dedguy!

You got the idea down solid - can you make an illustration with a flat grind scmitar blade? An exagerated one with a Cobra hood on the bladed side of the forefinger hold?

Way to go with the follow-up!

You are on the right track - I am the 'some-one a while ago'

who put up this idea week before last.
So you work at Spyderco - your second design looks 90% of the design I sent in the week before last...

If you take your second design and smooth out the top of the blade to look more like a Scimitar - you will be 90% of what I sent in to Spyderco friday ...
