Wow, didn't realize this was such a touchy issue. I grew up on a ranch and used knives daily without having a blade close on me, or even come close. I didn't realize it was something that was an issue for people and figured I'd ask.

That's right it's dumb. How many times have you needed your life insurance so far?

Do you happen to belong to those "real men don't need locks" camp?

That's an awfully aggressive tone. As I said my knives are all locking, but I don't know why. Sorry if I offended you by attempting to learn ...

Why Locking Blades?

I'm sure this is a dumb question, but I was looking through my knives today and noticed that all of them locked open. I know this is supposed to be a safety feature, but how? I've owned knives that didn't lock in the past and never had any issues. It seems to me that when you're cutting, the ...

The forum works great on the iPhone as it is. I hate most mobile sites, and usually end up switching to the full site whenever possible.

I agree. I hate to say it, but the mobile version for the main spyderco site doesn't even work properly and has a nice glitch that doesn't let me switch to the ...

On the other hand I'm a spydie-addict. When I see a $20-$30 Byrd knife I think about what more expensive Spyderco knives I want that I could put that money towards.

I have almost purchased 5 different Byrd knives on multiple occasions, but I always end up waiting a few extra weeks and put that $30 ...

Considering a Byrd

I like the looks of the Byrd Wing Slipit, but the only experience I have with Byrd knives is a Pelican my brother gave me shortly before he died. As such, it's the one knife I have that I consider too valuable to use, so I don't know how it compares to my spydies.

What's your opinion of Byrd knives ...

I contacted spyderco support and it looks $20 + shipping will get it repaired with a metal clip replacement. I should probably just send in all my knives for sharpening at the same time :D

Thanks, I'll try that.

Adding a Metal Clip to a Broken Dragonfly?

I've got an old model dragonfly with the molded plastic clip. Unfortunately, the clip broke off and I'm trying to figure out what to do with it. My current plan is to grind down the remaining clip (I already used a small file to remove the jagged parts) and then finish it off with fine-grit ...

Yeah, it doesn't look like there's any way to take it apart.

Cleaning A Knife

I few months ago, I asked for recommendations to replace a lost Dragonfly. Yesterday morning, the Dragonfly turned up on the floor of my car. It was covered in... goo of some sort. I have no idea where it came from or what it is. I've got as much of the knife as possible cleaned and looking like new ...

Thanks for all the help. I've ordered a replacement and I even though I had originally intended to just get one knife, I ended up with two (and a sharpmaker).

I really like the look of the SS Kiwi and it looks like it'll be perfect for everyday use, but for camping or working on our ranch, I wanted ...

Thanks for all the suggestions. The Dragonfly that I had was the FRN version. I've already looked through the online catalogue, but I wanted to get a feel for which knives people would recommend before asking about specifics. Based on what people have suggested, I like the looks of the following ...

Recommend a New Knife

For the past few years, I've carried a Dragonfly a friend gave everywhere I went. Unfortunately, sometime last week I managed to lose it :( . That knife was great and now that it's gone, I'm amazed at how often I reach for it only to find an empty pocket. So now I need a replacement.

The obvious ...
