I've had my "doublestuff" for a couple of years and it is the only sharpening kit I use (with the exception of a cheap diamond hone for reprofiling) As JD says, the leather slip case is ideal for stropping and I do keep one side of it loaded with stropping compound. Mastery of this tool mi...

No pictures, I'm afraid, but I've done this - I bought a Caly junior second hand and the tip was bent, so i cut it back about 3/8" and smoothed it off. You need to be competent with an angle grinder - if you aren't get someone else to do it! Mark the profile you want in permanent marker on the ...

Everyone, of course, is entitled to their own opinion as to where "real knives" end and "miniature knives" begin. However, in the interest of fairness, I felt a couple of comparison photos were in order so folks can see the size difference between the two and judge for themselve...

Kopa. I have both and the Kopa is a real knife, whereas the Kiwi is a miniature knife. That flat grind and MUCH better ergonomics make the difference, nothing at all to do with the clip (I've taken it off my Kopa anyway). Incidentally, my only Kopa is missing at the moment (tiger coral and I can't f...

I've got a U1, which doesn't lock, but has much nicer looks - blue stained bone scales in my case. It is great steel, pretty close to ZDP189, but seems much more stainless. Only thing I don't like about it is that the blade doesn't have a very fine point. Still, its replaced my Kopa as EDC for the m...

There is now a company making ceramic impregnated plastic scalpels - If they only have to work once, they don't even need to be steel!

I have a tiger coral and have carried and used it every day for over a year. Lovely looks, ergos and build quality. Why wouldn't you use it? Sure, it doesn't look as good now and I have broken the clip twice, but I bought it to use and it's just the right size for me.

I've got one of these - the blade is good, however, there is a lot of handle for the blade length and the ergos are not up to much. Fit and finish was also a bit lacking, especially on the chamfer around the hole. compact, flat and sharp, but I haven't used it much on account of the ergos.

I've got one of the double sided spyderco ceramic slip stones with a pouch and they don't seem to get much of a mention here (probably because of the sharpmaker) I'm not one for jigs and the like and I only use small knives. I suppose I've been freehand sharpening for a while - I don't use marker pe...

Congratulations on seeing the light - I have a tiger coral Kopa and it's been my EDC for a year now - the only thing I would say is that the clips are not as robust as other spydie clips, and you need to take a little care with it if you're carrying it daily (which you should) - its a very robust li...

I've got a ZDP D4 and I've noticed that it rusts a lot compared to other stainless steels. Now, I've got what is known in the toolmaking trade as "rusty fingers" i.e. my sweat is somewhat salty and I'm prone to leaving rusty fingerprints on stuff. However my VG10 and S30V blades have never...

A blunt knife is not a knife.

Not being able to sharpen your own knives is like not being able to fill your car up with petrol.

Isn't laser cut as well as precise and cheaper? Yes, but you can only laser cut steel - anything else and it's got to be water. I could recommend some companies in the UK but I doubt that is much help... Pricing varies with material, thickness, profile length and quantity, so putting any...

Absolutely. The P1D CE and it's contemporaries are superb, even compared to the most expensive pocket flashlight, but they don't hold a candle to HID or anything with an expensive bulb and large reflector. Still, I like them more.

Hmmm, hard use? Well, I trimmed 1/2" from an 8' sheet of plasterboard with mine, and to be fair, it did need touching up afterwards, but not much. Don't like the sabre grind or the plastic handles (first plastic handled knife - too much flex for someone used to SS, even with the liners) Still, ...

Kevin Wilkins does do a folding chef's knife that isn't far off a santoku with a choice of steels including s30v... but it'll cost you... and he has such a backlog that he isn't taking orders at the moment... Have a look at his stuff anyway, it's pretty!
