At least I was able to oggle some new Spydie prototypes and purchase a couple of customs (Don Morrow Saddlehorn Trapper and a Moulton Nighthawk single blade done in the new 154 CM) before disaster struck.

Surgery for the ruptured patellar tendon scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

I had a great time on Friday. Loved the Breeden prototype and several others.

Unfortunately, on Saturday I slipped and fell while walking down the steps of the parking garage. Managed to wreck my knee to the point where I was sent back home to NYC for surgery this week.

I still love knives, I just ...

Northeast Cutlery Collectors' Show?

Just wondering if anyone out there will be at this show in Mystic, CT this weekend. I am going to be in those parts, and am thinking of stopping by. Anyone know which custom makers will be there?

Thanks,
Mitch

CRKT and Spyderco approach knives from completely different directions. Spydies have much better material quality and ergonomics. CRKTs may be more fun in terms of design variants (eg Van Hoy Snap Lock, Rollock, etc.)

Bottom Line: I use Spydies; I play with CRKTs

I carry my Kiwi as an EDC to work very often. There's a lot of cutting power in a small package and the knife fits the hand like a glove.
Unless you are going to use it as a pry bar :-( the Kiwi should be tough enough for any EDC task

Sharpmaker Saga: Steel-y Behavior

Hello Spydie Fans:
I have been using the Sharpmaker for several months now and have noticed that the efficacy of my sharpening attempts appears to depend on the particular steel employed in the knife being sharpened. For example, I can get an extremely sharp edge on knives using VG-10, 440A-C ...

I have always had great service from New Graham as well.
As for a good knife to begin with, I would suggest a Kiwi. It is small enough that it will not scare anyone while at the same time it is extremely sharp and fits the hand like a glove.

Welcome!

Spin/Volpe Carry Combo

Hello Spydie Fans:
I'm not sure why this intrigues me so much, but I decided to attach my Spin to my keychain so I would always make sure to have a small cutting tool with me. What I found as an added bonus is that the keychain itself helps make the Spin more comfortable to hold and use.

In my ...

The little brown truck just dropped off my new Spin. First impressions: It's really small....but it does still fit pretty well in my large hand. I wouldn't use it for anything heavy duty, but it will make a good office EDC.

BTW, the framelock seems to work pretty well.

I'm waiting for mine, also. The little brown truck is due on Tuesday. My only concern is how the tiny SS handle will feel in the hand. A priori, I would like a grippier material.

From the point of view of a new knife knut, I couldn't agree more with the sentiments already expressed. For me, the bottom line is that Spydies represent the triumph of function over pure form. They are "honest" knives that don't pretend to be objets d'art with little functional use. Bravo...

Currently, my own personal "philosophy" is that I use my production knives and tend to exhibit/shelter my custom knives. It works for me so far, but things could certainly change ;-)

New Kid Talks Spydies

Hello Fellow Spydie Fans:
Just thought I would finally get around to checking in. I'm pretty new at ye olde knife hobby, but have really enjoyed myself so far.

In terms of Spydies, I now have four: the jigged-bone Kiwi, the SS Navigator 2, the new Mini-Persian, and the very new Volpe. My current ...
