Re: Falling out of love with serrations

For a while there I carried SE every day. Loved it. Since switching my PE knives from 1000+ grit to 200-300 grit, I've stopped loving it. I carry SE from time to time as a way to check my own biases and see if I'm missing something. I like how thin they come ground from factory. And that's about it...

I would love to see the test repeated on K390 and Maxamet.

Re: Indisputable proof that SpyderEdge is more versatile than plain edge

Every Spyder Edge I've seen already has a bevel on the back side, they still finish the edge with a bevel on both sides, so in that regard you can most likely improve on the factory edge with a bit more grinding on the primary bevel. Hollow Ground blades are especially good because, like sharpening...

Re: Indisputable proof that SpyderEdge is more versatile than plain edge

.. This is the perfect demonstration of why SE blades should only be sharpened flat with the primary bevel on the back side of the serrations. Rather than making the edge bevel thicker, grinding the back side just makes the edge thinner and it cuts better. And rather than erasing the shape of the s...

Re: Indisputable proof that SpyderEdge is more versatile than plain edge

You can turn any SE blade into PE but not the other way around :hot-face :rofl :'( I accidentally made this a PE. https://i.ibb.co/vmQbMcR/20220507-160011.jpg This is the perfect demonstration of why SE blades should only be sharpened flat with the primary bevel on the back side of the serrations. ...

No, I am not going to post a photo, but do feel free to mock! Tsk… what an eejit! Basically every time ...

https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/spyderco-vallotton.1145175/#post-13096419 Butch Vallotton. I had said the only way to make it better would be with a more retro steel like BG-42, but now that we have the MagnaCut I think it needs that steel, mostly for the stain resistance which will keep it nice...

Re: If model _____ had been ___ it would have been perfect

If the Yojumbo had been 5" long it would have been perfect.
For me.
I know most people can't carry over 4" but the design of that knife is perfect for an even longer blade.

Re: Yojimbo 2 Compression Lock Problem!

This might count as a hot take but technically a lock bar that binds with the blade tang is the best case scenario in terms of security. It's a twist of irony that knife enthusiasts are always chasing the strongest lock but in the same breath always working to help defeat the function of the lock. I...

Re: Best Blade Steel

I'm sure this has been covered before but it would be nice for the new people to hear. What is the best all around blade steel? No better place to ask this one. Thanks Adam - Kansas City Last year this was a much more complicated question, today the answer for most applications is MagnaCut. You can...

Re: Yojumbo S90V carbon fiber

Knife design can be so curious sometimes. The handle on the Yojumbo leaves enough room for a small choil but doesn't use it, and by leaving that space for a choil it moves the primary grip 3-4mm back from the cutting edge making leverages ever so slightly worse in its only grip configuration. It wou...

Re: Too good to be true

The biggest red flag to me is the random five yellow stars beside the name of every knife, if you're going to pretend to have user reviews at least write some. At this point I doubt they even sell fakes, more likely the whole thing is imaginary because anyone capable of making a fake Paysan would be...

Re: 3.5" Canadian Pen Knife?

In summary: 1) No restrictions on locking mechanisms in Canada (which is what Matus asked). No restrictions on blade lengths either except that you may need to prove it's not a weapon (see #4). 2) CBSA is an authoritarian agency who takes advantage of Canada's nebulous Criminal Code and sometimes h...

Re: 3.5" Canadian Pen Knife?

Which is open to extreme interpretation to the point where any folding knife even if opened partway before being swung like a baseball bat can be deemed prohibited. But has nothing to do with any locking mechanism. on a bad day you could be given a prohibited weapons charge completely at random. Do...

Re: Yojumbo S90V carbon fiber

The Yojumbo has 50% more edge length than the Para 3, (all other factors being equal) Edge Holding is directly proportional to Edge Length so you'll be cutting 50% more material between sharpenings with a Yojumbo. Not a big deal for some people but at least it is a logical benefit for anyone to max...

Re: 3.5" Canadian Pen Knife?

Do you guys in Canada have limitations on locking blades? Not at all, the only actual prohibition is "a knife that has a blade that opens automatically by gravity or centrifugal force or by hand pressure applied to a button, spring or other device in or attached to the handle of the knife"...

Hmmm, love S90V, dislike huge knives, dislike the concept of carrying knives for SD, still strangely drawn to this... they're mighty fine utility knives. that's what I've used the Yojimbo 1, Ronin 2 and Yojumbo for :cheap-sunglasses On one hand I believe, you, on the other hand I've never found mys...

Re: Yojumbo S90V carbon fiber

I've always been a big fan of the shape and aesthetic of the Yojimbo, but it was too small. Now given how well the Yojumbo has been executed (one of the only knives ever with a 1:1 ratio of Blade Length to Edge Length) this practically becomes my #1 all time favorite Spyderco. The Yojumbo even has m...
