Re: Spydies Good For Game Processing
I’ve used my old Stretch 1 in ZDP-189 on a few deer to good effect. I used my Mule in CPM M4 on A pig and a deer and it also worked good, but the Stretch is thinner behind the edge and has a very useful shape for processing game, and that would be my choice of the two. Most Spydercos are far, far be...

Re: Spyderco hardware origin.
Agreed about the quality of the torx screws. I genuinely enjoy my Spyderco fanboy life, but I think this is a criticism they should take note of as it is quite possibly the weakest link in their otherwise amazing product. One other link. Spyderco charges for clips, and clip screws like we tried to ...

Re: A visual guide to Edge geometry vs Blade geometry
I made it this far before it started to feel like I was carving wood, I had to angle the cut or there was no way I was making it all the way through this box. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52889665635_6a675f61a4_w.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52889280906_69381b6f6c_w.jpg If I ever ...

Re: A visual guide to Edge geometry vs Blade geometry
Hollow grind blades, especially hollow saber grind blades, tend to do the same thing. People seem to think "hollow grind = thin behind the edge = better cutter", none of which is automatically true. Hollow grinds *can be* thinner behind the edge, but mostly they aren't. And even if it is ...

Re: You guys can keep your straight spine Stretch
This has me thinking. I found an old Stretch 1 in ZDP 189 that had been lost for like 9 years and wasn’t cleaned after processing a deer, so it looked rough. I took it all apart and cleaned it out and started hand grinding the blade to remove the rusted steel and thin it out. But now I’m thinking a ...

Re: Steels and spyderedge
I agree with Evil’s wishes of the serrations ground from the factory at 15 degrees or less so there would be no tedious reprofiling work needed to use the 15 degree setting on the Sharpmaker. When you go that acute edge stability and toughness start to shine. Of the currently used Spyderco steels Ma...

Re: MT37P - AEB-L Mule Team Dropping Soon
Mine also is ground up the plunge some, but about 1/2 what I’m seeing in the photo bob-atlatl posted. Edge angle is 12-13 degrees, and it is about .018”-.020” at the top of the bevel. So pretty good geometry for a factory knife. Mine wasn’t super sharp but a few swipes on the fine and ultrafine shar...

Re: MT37P - AEB-L Mule Team Dropping Soon
Has anyone sharpened theirs yet? Assuming mine was delivered tonight I’ll try to get mine sharpened up tomorrow if I have time. If it is already at 12 DPS then I’ll probably take it to 10 DPS on my first sharpening. AEB-L at 62-63 RC, as you well know, can handle that with ease for all but the roug...

Re: MT37P - AEB-L Mule Team Dropping Soon
Has anyone measured the thickness behind the edge and/or measured the edge angle with a ganiometer? I’d be very pleased with 12 degrees per side from the factory. Mine may get delivered tonight so hopefully I get a chance to measure mine and start putting it to use.

I’d be in for at least 2 of those. One to use and 1 for a spare, and any others to use as gifts to show people what proper geometry can do for performance.Deadboxhero wrote: ↑Tue Apr 18, 2023 12:04 pmI think a steel in the AEB-L range at high hardness would be an excellent candidate for this model in the future.

Re: Whoever sharpened this PM2 deserves a raise
They need to hire that robot in Seki ;) The DLT Cruwear Endela I got had some of the most uneven edge grinds I've ever seen, especially at the tip. Easy enough to fix. Three hundred or so strokes on the diamond rods should do the trick. I was happy with my Cruwear Endela, even though it was dull an...

Re: MT37P - AEB-L Mule Team Dropping Soon
https://youtu.be/nn_87-AIfTM Nice video. At 62-63 RC for the AEB-L mule we should see some excellent performance. Far, far better than some of the 13C26 knives (same composition as AEB-L) that were at 57-59 RC I used in the past. I don't think you'll find many production AEB-L knives at 62-63rc so ...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
Looking good. What angle did you use? Freehand, somewhere in the 10-13ish dps range I suppose. This one must have been a touch thinner to start with behind the edge, as it doesn't have as wide a bevel as a CRK usually gets for me. I did measure it but it was long enough ago that I forgot what it wa...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
Finally decided to go ahead and reprofile this MagnaCut Sebenza. I do like my CRKs in S45VN, but MagnaCut definitely sharpens up more easily. Both good steels, but I did sharpen this MagnaCut one at the same time as an S45VN one and there was a notable difference. MagnaCut continues to be a favorit...

Re: MT37P - AEB-L Mule Team Dropping Soon
I have a small custom slip joint in AEB-L at about 63 RC. It is very thin stock, like .06” range, and was a near zero grind when I got it. I run angles well under 10 degrees with it and it is a tremendous slicer. It is so thin that when dull it still out slices most sharp pocket knives. It resharpe...
