Re: EDC Hygiene: Fixed Blade VS. Folder
Never really thought much on it. In the past I backpacked quite a bit, and I was a medic in the Infantry. I can recall being in the field and using my Delica to cut paracord, medical tape, then open my MREs. Now while I would wash my hands before and after working on a patient, in-between I lived li...

Re: Knife that screams liner lock got the compression lock - why?
I have a Rhino and have no problem opening & closing it. Also due to disabilities I can only use my right hand. So I'm not understanding how a person with use of both hands is having a problem closing the Rhino? Unless you're saying you can't do the fidgety flip it open, drop it shut thing. Pers...

Re: The Astute
I love the look & feel of this knife, but not a fan of the steel. If keeping it in the Chinese Spyderco factory, I'd love to see some of the other steels that Chinese companies are using. I think Nitro V or Sandvik 14C28N would be a nice step up without increasing the price too much.

Re: Got this email about the Emerson CQC - &, Ernie smiled his guts.
I bought a Benchmade CQC-7 back around '95. I was an Army Medic in the Reserves getting ready to go Active Duty, and I'd just finished the book "Rogue Warrior". I still liked my Delica, and carried it a bit, but the CQC-7 felt more substantial. I could get away with a little more abuse wit...

Re: What is your favorite Delica variant?
My default go-to pocketknife is a standard FFG Delica 4 in VG10. I'd like to have gotten a Super Blue or HAP-40 version, but don't know if it would serve me any better.

That's the version I like.Tristan_david2001 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 03, 2024 3:13 pmI might actually prefer ffg for pure edc versatility..IMG_4574.jpeg
Add some wood scales with contrasting pins, maybe osage with black pins, and you got a nice EDC fixed blade.

Looks like a good no-nonsense knife to me. What type of grind are you thinking of - sabre? hollow?

Re: thoughts on a Spyderco Machete
Many years ago at BLADE I was among a small group of people talking with Jeff Randall of ESEE Knives. He made the comment that people buying the fancy & expensive tree-beaters would be better served with a cheap machete. I also count Joe Flowers from Condor as a friend, and he is an encyclopedia...

I was looking at a Bradford Guardian 3 a few years back and ended up getting a Creely Blades Mako instead.

Re: Sage 5 in REX 121 + burnt orange
Outstanding.
I really liked the Sage 5 LW in Maxamet I handled this year at BLADE, BUT I don't like hard to sharpen steels. I also want to try out Spy27 steel, so Win/Win

Re: Sage 5 in REX 121 + burnt orange
I can’t tell you how happy I am about the recent additions to the Sage 5 family. Best 3” Spyderco, imo…to see if getting this much attention is amazing, man. *cough* cruwear The only two Sage models still in production have Compression Lock & FRN (S30V & Maxamet). The two models previewed a...

Re: Delica 4 in 2024?
I've carried a Delica of some sort since they 1st came out. I currently own 2 - a SE ZDP-189, and a FFG in Brown FRN. I originally bought my 1st Delica as an inexpensive beater to replace my Harpy that I'd pawned. The Harpy was the 1st Spydero I'd ever owned, but I wanted a more traditional blade sh...

Re: New Discoveries found in 8Cr13MoV testing
My sample group of 8CR consists of 3 Kershaws. I was impressed with none of them. Edge holding was less than my VG10 Spydercos or 154CM Benchmades. Sharpening them was easy enough, but occasionally they seemed to develop a burr that I'd have to get past to get a good edge. I gave 2 away & held o...

Re: Favorite non spyderco knives?
I was curious what all the fuss was about the Civivi Elementum, so I picked up one with copper scales over Black Friday. I really like it. It is the first non-Spydie I have bought in a long time besides a SAK. It's a great flipper with good action and a reasonable heft to it for a small knife. It's...

Probably my Chaparral LW for any package slicing.
Long ago when my boys were small, I stopped using a knife for Xmas duties and grabbed a pair of EMT Shears.
