Re: Opinel Outdoor Folder used for Bushcrafting

I so wish they offered it with a plain-edge. I have no use for serrations in a woods-knife. I've used a few Opinel #8s on official Scout trips where a fixed blade was not allowed. The most recent was a Opinel Ebauche in walnut that I finished the handle on.

Re: CTS-XHP Thread

First experience with CTS-XHP was with a Ken Brock custom fixed blade that now lives in my go-bag. When the Manix LW came out in it I jumped at it. Gave me the chance to check out that knife in a steel I like. Liked the Manix LW, but generally prefer smaller knives so I picked up a Rhino. It is now ...

Re: We are saved! Baseball Season is here!

Braves continue to be exciting to watch. BUT our relief pitching still needs help. The answer to getting behind is still to bat our way out of it. If the bats are cold, or the opposing team's pitching is good, they end up in trouble. Still - 4 HRs in the 2nd Inning vs. the Pirates was crazy to watch...

Re: If everyone knew the date of their death?

I'm a cynic so I don't think much good would come from it. I believe a lot of people would do things right before Zero Hour they normally wouldn't due to fear of repercussions. Murder, Rape, Vandalism, Theft, etc. Bare minimum I could see people racking up a credit card right before they pass. Hell ...

Re: Your views on machetes?

I have 5 or 6 different Condor Machetes. I've known Joe Flowers for years and count him as a friend. My usual go-to beater around the house is a discontinued double-edged machete by Condor. I use it to trim back an overhanging tree and brush along my back fence. I used a discontinued Condor Puerto-R...

Re: When / where was the first time you heard of or saw a spyderco?

Flew back to Salinas, Ca. to visit friends from High School in 1987. While I was out there I was hanging out around Carmel, Ca and went into a Tobacco store to look at the small selection of knives they had. This stainless steel handled, serrated edged, humpbacked, hole in the hawkbill bladed knife ...

Re: Bull Fighting: Is it barbaric and savage or a good cultural thing?

I lived in Spain for two years. I studied the history of bullfighting and read Death in the Afternoon . I have seen many bullfights. I have sat by the road and watched the toros and vaca bravas for hours. It is obvious that few Americans understand what a corrida is about or how it is done, much le...

Re: What’s planned for BLADE show? Any exclusives?

Don't recall there being any Spyderco BLADE exclusives in all the shows I've been to. The Prototype Case is worth going for though. It's kind of torture though as you get to see some really cool stuff, but you have no idea when it will be released, or if it will even be made. I do recall the year H1...

Re: Benchmade Bailout - your thoughts?

I've got a Benchmade Bugout that is a great office EDC. S30V is not my favorite steel, but the light weight an deep carry clip appealed to me. I still wish that Benchmade had gone the route of G10 and 154CM like my Benchmade 531 - my previous lightweight carry. All that said, I was intrigued my the ...

Re: Favorite war movies?

Definitely forgot Blackhawk Down . That movie resonated with me as I entered service as it was the same time frame. There was a soldier in my Brigade who was there. The scene where they are driving through the town getting shot up and the .50 gunner gets killed - that was his friend. In the movie it...

Re: What types of colors of FRN do you prefer?

I like the Racing Green, Coyote Brown, & Khaki Tan. I'm ok with Black, but for so many years that's all there was so it's nice to see something different. I prefer muted colors that blend in & are less noticeable while carrying. I'd love to see the Khaki Tan & Denin Blue offered on the Kahr Delicas ...

I use to use a CE Delica many years ago while working EMS. I found I used it more as a knife than a seatbelt cutter so I wanted a point. The couple of times I used it on a seatbelt it did just fine.

Thank you Joyce, Sal, and all at Spyderco.

I was delayed on posting this due to the forum software mess and forgetting my password. Last year at BLADE while at the Spyderco booth I mentioned that my oldest son was working on his Eagle Scout. Mrs. Laituri said that if he earned it to contact her. Well it was close, but he finished his project...

My wife's late Grandfather (WW2 vet) took computer classes at the Senior citizen's center and would make a family calendar every year for Christmas. I'm 50 and have a college degree that involves the use of electronic medical records. The stereotype of older people being befuddled by technology isn'...

Re: The new REVEAL is out ! Hey Doc, our AEB-L Urban is coming !

There is a FB group I belong to that has a lot of members in the UK. Slipjoint Spydercos are very popular. I expect the new Urban, in a new steel choice, to be very popular. Shoot I'm not limited on the type of knife I carry & I find myself interested in the new Urban. I use to own one of the orange...
