Re: Spyderco Smock:Technical Showcase, Dud Knife

Handled one at BLADE and the ergonomics did not work for my hand.

Nice! I have that same Vic Rambler. What pen is that in the top pic? The Warhawk one.
Pen is a Retro 51 Tornado "Flying Tigers" edition.

A couple of variations for my day-to-day carry at the hospital I work for. Rhino pic is the most recent

Re: Spyderco serration history

During my time with the 101st Airborne(Air Assault) I saw a lot of soldiers carrying serrated knives for cutting line. Choices available at the PX were either Cold Steel or Spyderco. A lot would go with Cold Steel as it was cheaper. Most would later regret it because their serrations were difficult ...

Re: Li'l Temperance 3: A (not so) li'l review

RiddleofSteel.jpg 5. A note on indexing. There is a step by step instruction with pictures for indexing the lil temp 3 from forward grip to reverse grip out there somewhere. By these instructions, after opening, the thumb is placed on the divot on the lockbar side (front side/show side) and another...

In what steel would you like to see the next version?

sal
VG-10 or CTS BD1N would be nice to keep the price down.

CPM SPY27 with the blue FRN might be a cool sprint.

And CTS XHP is always one of my favorites.

Re: Li'l Temperance 3: A (not so) li'l review

Love mine. Wanted it since I saw the prototype at BLADE. I echo your praises for it, especially the ergonomics. The action is just fine to me, then again I've never cared about drop-close actions. I can open it quickly & smoothly using the thumb-hole. I can even Spydie-flick it if I use enough force...

Want a Delica with a Choil then look at a Native or Caly 3. Leave the Delica alone :)

Re: Knife request idea.

Don't medical shears get sterilized? The ones with the blue plastic handles must be able to survive an autoclave, I wonder how FRN would handle it? I would think a Ladybug or Dragonfly with smooth scales (no crevices for bacteria to collect) and a one piece molded handle design would work, along wi...

Re: So, how are you staying busy during the lockdown?

Not on lockdown, and work at a hospital so still working. That said we are minimizing contact. Finally started watching the Expanse on Amazon Prime. Also have a few series on Netflix we are watching. Got a book to read, with another on the way. Renewed my premium time on World of Tanks video game Al...

Re: Knife request idea.

All metal(copper, etc) sounds nice, but would drag down scrub pockets. Also drives up price. The G10 smoothness over FRN due to "gunk" factor has merit. Has there ever been a G10 Ladybug? Co-Pilot in G10 might be interesting? Dragofly in G10 & LC200N steel might sell well. Edit: I can't see Spyderco...

Re: Advice on delica/endura maintenance

I've got a discontinued SE ZDP-189 Delica out in the car that was from the 1st run years ago. It was carried for years as my work beater. It opened lots of cardboard boxes, cut bandage tape, even sawed through some wet-to-dry cast material to help shape it. I never disassembled it. Basically I would...

Re: Has the Coronavirus affected your daily life?

One of the Radiologists at work told me that supposedly we will have the ability to test in-house and get same day results. It's a small town hospital so I can only assume same-day testing is going to become more wide spread. Of course we both suspect this will mean a sharp rise in the amount of pat...

Re: Has the Coronavirus affected your daily life?

Oldest son just got an email saying the rest of his college semester will be finished online. Going to have to up our groceries since he'll be home now. Kind of sucks for him as this was his 1st year of college and he was doing well. Hopefully he keeps up the momentum. As of tomorrow our hospital wi...

I live in NW Georgia. I pretty much carry either my Chaparral LW or Rhino daily. I've not noticed any rust. I have noticed some discoloration that could possibly be a patina.

Re: Has the Coronavirus affected your daily life?

I work in hospital admissions/registrations in a small hospital at the diagnostic center. Some of our scheduled patient numbers have been down, but walk-in x-rays & labs have been up. Mostly annual screening type tests have been getting rescheduled till a later date. We've been told our hours could ...

Re: Pick a first Benchmade

Griptillian is a good knife. I just found the Mini-Grip a bit too small, and the standard Grip too big. One of my favorite Benchmades is the discontinued 531. It was the precursor to the Bugout for a thin-bladed lightweight knife. The Bugout improved on the 531's ergonomics, & pocketclip. To me thou...
