Re: Spyderco's "Iconic Steel"?
To be entirely fair, I think that this is a question that has to be answered historically. In the beginning, there was GIN1. IIRC, this was the steel that built the empire that we know today. I had a GIN1 first generation Delica once upon a time (back in 7th grade, best Christmas present ever!), but...

Re-Educating a Long-Time Knife Knut
I've been lurking about a bit lately and trying to figure out what the latest and greatest in the world of steel really is, but it seems my metallurgy is a bit behind the times since I left. When I left the forum, the big four favorite steels were CPM-S30V, VG-10, H-1, and ZDP-189; S90V was in its i...

Re: Help sharpening dragonfly 2 zdp 189
IMHO, sharpening a dull ZDP-189 blade is an exercise in masochism, so the best advice I can give is to not let it get dull. Sure, it will hold it's edge for a good while longer than most steels, but even when I carried a ZDP Delica and used it on a daily basis, I found it smartest to give it an ever...

Hi, I am new here and a dress designer student in Sydney, Australia. I understood the dress pants and fashion but why there are knives photo? Picture this, if you will, as a highly practical form of "accessorizing" :D Welcome to the forums; hope we can give you a chance to learn about our...

Re: So I did some walking... and thinking...
Thanks for the fine photos and well-crafted contemplative post. (although you threw me with the "30 minute drive to Golden") Beautiful area, especially when outside the lottery permit season. When the hordes are tramping, one can find plenty of solitude nearby, e.g Langley, Russell etc. W...

Re: So I did some walking... and thinking...
Welcome back! Great pictures--I have always wanted to visit the Sierrra. Roughly where did your route go? Started from Whitney Portal and hiked up to camp at Lone Pine Lake the first day. Next day we pushed up to Whitney Trail Camp (should be renamed "Camp WagBag"), and the stretch betwee...

Re: Five day off-trail backpacking trip in the Wind Rivers
Thanks all. Welcome back, uhiforgot! We used USGS 7.5 minute topos and a Garmin GPS loaded with topos and a track that I created prior to the trip on GoogleEarth. However, the GPS wasn't really necessary (although it was useful at times), because I had studied the area a fair amount in GoogleEarth ...

Sounds like an outstanding knife! I've always been a fan of the Native family, and it's amazing to see how far it has come!

This is absolutely GORGEOUS! Haven't done much off-trail before, but if I'm ever in this neighborhood I'll see about retracing your steps. Which maps did you use? USGS? Tom Harrison?

Re: So I did some walking... and thinking...
Thanks to all others for the positive vibes and thoughts. I've evolved quite a bit in the time I've been gone, and hopefully able to bring a bit more of the positivity that this place is accustomed to along with a new maturity (but not without the occasional shenanigans).

Great story, thanks for sharing. Looking forward to your future contributions. I feel like we're experiencing a renaissance of sorts; after all that talk of declining "atmosphere" there have been many new contributors, some returning contributors, and a lot of new stuff to talk about. A g...

So I did some walking... and thinking...
So the miles were passing under my feet in a somewhat agonizing manner. The scenery was amazing, but it didn't ease the fact that the air was thin and I needed food. So my mind started to wander, but only enough to not forget to keep my feet on the path. Why had I come here? Well, that seemed obviou...

Re: Enviromentalist Question
Please, I do not want this to get politicial. This is a question about the issue of enviromentalism and a strange paradox in this thinking. I believe we need to be good stewards of the Earth enviroment, and make use of it wisely, while not abusing it. I believe it is a good thing to create clean, l...

And the winner is...
The chosen number was 3182.6 (which was basically the number of Mario Kart races I'd done with my friends at the time multiplied by 2 plus an arbitrary decimal). So with that said, the winning interval is 1337 and 4141 (length 2804) posted by: *** tkdman41 *** Congratulations to tkdman41 on a winnin...

Hi Jeff, thanks for the fun. If there would be a trial and error contest, (allowing say, 14 tryouts for instance... :rolleyes :) , I would dare to guess the exact number. ;) Unfortunately, without any clues during the contest, all that remains is blind luck . Luck which I wish wholeheartedly to all...

Mathematical Spyder Contest II: Return of the Unnecessarily Long "Rules" Section!
Yep, it’s that time again; time for another one of my mentally masochistic contests! But remember that as always 1) there are rules, and 2) I am going to make you think. This contest will not be as mathematically complex as the last one, but you'll need to stay tuned-in if you want to win! HERE'S TH...

Finally a Military that I'd buy regardless of the righty-ness, and I can't touch it! :( I do believe you are correct. The total run is only 600! And I know it was split at least once. I know the first run was mostly sold out before it was even produced, most of it going to collectors. So, if for som...
