Re: C22 Michael Walker in 2019

My apologies if I offend anyone with this idea, but would anyone else like to see this knife made with a different lock? Or would that be too sacrilegious? I'm not offended, but feel that a Walker with any other lock type is missing the point by a mile :) I think Michael Walker invented this lock (...

Re: Is the Dragonfly Obsolete?

I don't think there is a knife design/model, etc. that will ever make the Dragonfly obsolete. It's a perfect design for a knife that size IMO. I've had a few over the years and the only one I've hung on to is the one with the SB blade. I'd like to see a DF with XHP but I like the SB. I think most th...

Re: A slip joint use and safety discussion

I picture folders in 3 categories when it comes to the lock or slip joint. 1. Good reliable lock 2. Slip joint like Spyderco's with safety built in with the finger choil. That's really good. 3. Traditional slip joints. The half stop models are great and my preference. I've been cut a couple of times...

Lock strength and safety

My thoughts and opinion only. Lots of discussion about lock strength and such. Cold Steel has videos of how their tri-lock is stronger than others. Maybe it is. It is a great lock. I have 3 Cold steel small folders and LOVE them all for different needs. HOWEVER: To me the tests (comparisons) of thei...

Re: New Para 3 Red or Blue Loctite?

I don't know which loc-tite that knife has but I can't imagine any time anything stronger than blue would be needed on a knife. I've never used red loc-tite but my understanding is you only use that when you don't ever want the screw, nut/bolt, etc. to be taken apart. Possibly it would create a lock...

Re: New fixed blade - need help

I bought two mule knives. One ended up in the kitchen and the other was a work knife for me. The only thing I HATE about the shape is the area that curves around the little hole is WAY to "curvey" for a work knife. For the kitchen it's ok. But that is where my thumb rests when cutting. When cutting ...

Re: How sharp should an EDC knife be?

C’mon, polished edges are useful. You never know when you might need to clean some food out of your teeth or pluck a rogue nose hair. True that- plus if you polish your less than stainless blades that oxidation has nowhere to start and it’s just banished to the depths once more. I like using the po...

Re: How sharp should an EDC knife be?

Bearfacedkiller and MichaelScott, you guys have been drinking too much or not enough. lol I don't know. :) The mention of a straight razor was a bad example as a few have said. It is a completely different type of tool with a different use. Me bad, me sorry. :) So, let's take two Delica knives with...

Re: What is sharp?

I voted for sharp meaning the tool cuts with it's intended purpose as good as possible. I think this would hold true for people who carry a knife every day or a chef. I feel the edge apex's sharpness, keenness, etc. is a smaller part of the big picture. The big picture includes blade thickness, grin...

How sharp should an EDC knife be?

A straight razor needs to be super razor sharp to give a good, comfortable shave. But that very delicate edge will be destroyed by just opening an envelope. Destroyed for what it was intended for I mean. That's because it's so thin and fragile at the apex I think. So, even if a pocket knife has a th...

Re: FRN Scales

IMO FRN scales may be the best (or as good as any) in the world. They have held up to anything I've needed in a knife handle. There's no problem with getting them wet. If they get filthy you can clean them easily without worrying about altering color or anything else. Or, if the color of the FRN is ...

Re: Do you ever wish you only had 1 knife?

I know that must sound crazy to most of you, but hear me out lol. I've always liked the idea of having items that I carry for many years and sort of grow with and have history with. Many of the knives I own, I have practically no relationship with. Does that make sense? I've used them all, but it's...

Re: My straight razor and Spyderco's stones

Hi jackh, Welcome to our forum and thanx much for the kind words. I used a UF stone on my straight razors for years, 30 years ago. I made mine from a fine stone which I made finer using diamond hones. Ruined the diamond hones though, so I don't recommend it. I liked it so much, we developed and pro...

Re: Taking apart knives - part 2

I can't believe people return knives they take apart. If I do anything other than take a knife out of the box, open and close it a few times, and rub my thumb over the edge to test it, it's mine . Anything else is incredibly disrespectful to every party involved in getting the product to me. I've h...

Re: My straight razor and Spyderco's stones

My next experiment I think will be to use Shapton glass stones (2k and 4k) on a razor to re-set the bevel and then the Spyderco stones then stropping. Wait... what do you mean by "re-set the bevel"? Straight razors have only one bevel angle option, it's set by the width of the blade. That's why the...

Re: My straight razor and Spyderco's stones

I can't wait to get a spyderco UF bench stone. If I was shaving though I'd probably break out the 0.1 micron (after 1 and 0.25). The Spyderco UF stone is a phenomenal stone IMO. For most EDC knives I don't think it's needed that much. Not for me anyway. But it can put a very smooth edge on a knife....

My straight razor and Spyderco's stones

I got a straight razor that I haven't used in quite a while and went through the honing process with the Spycerco fine and ultra-fine grit stones. The razor was already honed acceptably I think. I'm not a great straight razor honer but I do keep my razors up myself. I've had Lynn Abrams (Straight Ra...

New Chaparral (FRN)

I got the new Chaparral with FRN handle. I actually had seen a video review of the Chaparral with the new, very beautiful handle material whose name I can't think of. I decided to get one since I haven't spoiled myself with a new knife in quite a while. The search also brought up the FRN chaparral t...

Re: Guess what Spydie I got my daugher on her 18th

Did you get her a whale rescue blade? :) If not I can't think of a better knife for EDC than an FRN dragonfly or the new Chaparral in FRN. Both are small knives and while both have come in different handle materials I can't think of one that I like better than FRN. It's not heavy but it's strong eno...
