Is the sheepsfoot Urban still in the pipeline?
I've only seen pics of the leaf & Wharnecliff, hopefully the sheepsfoot isn't too far behind?

Hi DiaBECKtic,
Good reason in England would cover such things as carrying a fixed blade knife while wilderness camping, a filleting knife when fishing, a Spydie Rescue (locking) knife when kayaking etc.
Unfortunately you would probably be unable to convince a police officer that you had any good ...

He may be Prime Minister  but he doesn't understand his own country's laws.
It is still legal to carry a sub 3" non locking folder without any justification, and over 3", or locking, or fixed blade if you've got good reason.
There are currently no plans for that to change, what he is ...

Clovis,
I've been watching the Urban development pretty closely, and I'm sure there were plans for an FRN handled version, which would hopefully cost less than the G10 ones, that might be just what you need!

Sorry Mjolnir, I've got to disagree.
Laws do matter. I may not like some of them, but you can't have people picking & choosing which laws to comply with.

David,
I agree - the only reason the UKPK exists is that it is NOT a weapon, and it was made to comply with restrictive laws (and the same will apply to the Urban). If a self defence trainer existed, that would completely go against the whole concept.

I can't wait for the Urban !!!
Locking knives give you problems with the law here in the UK, as Sal has taken the trouble to find out. Hence the UKPK.
Even though the UKPK was designed solely to fit in with UK laws, it can still look a bit scary to some in a non knife environment, so now Sal is ...

The UKPK is superb for what you want, mine gets used all the time for just that - sharpening pencils, opening packages, opening food etc etc.
You don't need to have any worries about the lack of a lock, it's pretty secure, and as long as you hold it with your forefinger in the choil, the blade just ...

I know coin collectors cabinets should be made from mahogany and not oak, as the oak will tarnish coins. As for stainless knives, who knows?

Aren't statistics interesting......
Statistically the average human has less than 2 legs! (think about it).

PJ, General etc etc thanks for the discussion on this topic, some very interesting views.

And I'm still looking forward to an orange G10 sheepsfoot Spyderco Urban :D

Thanks PJ,
First, I don't support a ban on locking knives (and don't want Spyderco to stop producing them, or for you to stop carrying them).
But, we've got a ban, and we've got to live with it.
It's not new, it's been challenged plenty (unsuccessfully) and it's here to stay. Now, accepting that ...

One good thing has come out of this, we've now got the UKPK :D
What an excellent knife, and not once have I thought "If only this had a lock".
Apart from getting you worried about new tighter laws, part of my point here was to say how good the UKPK is, and bring on the Urban!!!
Sure, lockers (or ...

New US law to ban locking folders !!!

Not really, but I bet thet got your attention ;)
Seriously, how long do you think it might be until this happens?
This is already the case here in the UK (EDC has to be non-locking and sub 3 inch cutting edge), and in a world of ever tightening knife laws, and ever tightening enforcement of ...

The only one for me is not a lock - the UK Penknife notchjoint.
I am restricted by UK law to non lockers, but having carried & used this knife I just don't see the need for a lock, the notchjoint combined with a finger choil is so secure (If you haven't used one I know you won't believe me!), and if ...
