Moki (Calys, Persians et al) is the only :spyder: maker that consistently produces blades with very thin edges (around .02"), and they are unlikely to use anything other than Japanese steel. Japanese equivalents to CTS-XHP, CTS-204P/M390, Elmax etc., would be a wonderful thing.

Next knife in Elmax?

Sal,

Are there any more knives with Elmax in the works?

A Manix 2 XL (w/navy blue G-10 scales) would be awesome, but I'll buy a Manix 2, Para 2, Native 5, Milli, or just about anything else, in this steel.

+1 for Elmax. A Manix 2 XL in Elmax is one of my dream knives.

Thank you for explaining that Kristi. I apologize if I inadvertently gave the impression that Spyderco shut me down or dropped me as a dealer. The decision was mine alone. My relationship with Spyderco has been an excellent one. I will miss the professional, and just plain "good people", I...

Yes, I have done it successfully. The thinner G-10 scales make the wider Superhawk nicer to carry, and I also prefer the CF on the Superleaf.

I can say for certain that it is a distributor exclusive commissioned by Blue Ridge Knives. It will be available to any dealer who does business with them.

I really can't imagine having only one :spyder: , but the hypothetical choice just got easier with the arrival of my M390 Para 2.

...A G-10 ZDP-189 version would be too heavy and too expensive and I wouldnt buy one... G-10 would involve retooling, and, IMO, is unlikely to happen. A different color FRN and ZDP-189 would be relatively easy to do. Burgundy is not normally my first choice, but I think it might suit this model wel...

Funny, I was just playing with my Cento 4, and thinking of starting a thread proposing a sprint run in ZDP-189.

4 mm vs. 3 mm, any real advantage?

Some have expressed disappointment that the Manix 2 XL's blade is only 3 mm thick instead of 4 mm, like the original C95. I'm actually pleased. IME, 3 mm offers advantages in slicing and ease of carry. 4 mm certainly gives the appearance and feel of ruggedness, but what real advantage does it offer ...

You know, the first thing I thought about when I saw the picture of the new Manix XL - was "SuperLeaf". Granted, the two aren't even close to identical - the profile is slightly different, the jimping is different, obviously the locks are different, etc. But there are enough similarities ...

Sal, any plans for more knives in Elmax?

I am looking forward to the LionSpy, but I would also like to see this steel in a Para 2, Manix 2, Milli, Native 5, or other FFG model.

Hey everyone, I am alive, well, and still in business. It has been a busy couple of weeks for me, and I apologize to anyone whose email got lost in the shuffle. Thank you all for your support. Interacting with fellow :spyder: enthusiasts like you is one of the most enjoyable aspects of being a dealer.

The point is that the Tenacious (along with the Resilience et al) has a unique combination of features not available on other models. The fact that it's made to sell at a lower price point doesn't make it a lesser design. If they had decided to make it in Golden or Japan, at a higher price, I think ...

It is a distributor exclusive. It will have an S35VN blade. Many dealers do business with this particular distributor, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding one who will get some.

Just curious...what's wrong with the steel it has and what do you find that's so special about elmax? Nothing wrong with VG-10, I'd just like to try Elmax in an FFG :spyder: with excellent ergonomics. It seems to offer a great balance of all the qualities I value in a knife steel. http://www.spyder...

Thanks everyone for making this an excellent and informative discussion. I'm really not against working edge retention, I just don't want to sacrifice fine edge retention and/or ease of sharpening to get it. IME, CTS-XHP offers a great balance of fine edge retention, working edge retention, and ease...
