Re: What Are You Reading ?

I'm pretty deep into Randal Collins' Violence: A Micro-sociological Theory. It's pretty good, if you are into that sort of thing.

Re: Any Benchmade Fans Here?

I like em, course... as is probably the case for most of us... Spyderco is my go to brand.

Well, I am a simple man... so I like to roll with an AR pistol on warm days... and the same with a desert eagle (44 mag, of course) backup when it gets cool out. :p https://scontent-b-atl.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/1471368_10202756032363246_1804131509_n.jpg I kid, of course (I mean, really, everyone ...

Bah, why would you remind me that it's finally out. In no way can I afford that kind of time suck at this point. The plan was to just ignore it at all costs until I reach retirement age in 2050 or so... you've ruined it, guess I have to buy it now...

I got a nice pair of Nike's, long since worn out now of course. But, in basic the Army made me pack them away and buy a pair of New Balances, also worn through and thrown away. These days I run in some Nike Lunarflys.

Well... it'd definitely be one of the ones on the bottom row... :p

I kid, it'd be the one in the middle of the bottom row, the SS Police, I have an unnatural fascination with that model.

Howdy all! I haven't been around much lately, many goings on. I recently completed my enlistment and separated from the US Army. The transition stuff (clearing all my gear, dealing with the VA, etc. etc.) is quite time consuming. I decided to bump this VERY old thread because I feel it illustrates i...

Responsible gun owners and CHL holders have a clear responsibility to both know and adhere to the law... most of us do this better than the bulk of the non-carrying populace. This marine (no such thing as a former marine :p ) isn't doing us any favors.

If you lie about military service to get a job, the suitable punishment is being fired and blacklisted... not jailed. If you lie about it as a cry for attention, the suitable punishment is negative attention, ridicule, and exclusion... not arrest. If you lie to get money (or stuff) from veteran's ag...

Yep, but I've been involved in that conversation before... evidently, everyone is supposed to ignore his lies because he is such a nice guy. Everyone else, send to prison :p .

But that's kind of the point of the law. Unlike lying about your conquests while in high school, the size of the fish you caught last year, or how fast the Camaro you use to own could go, lying about service is almost always done to gain some advantage. Which is not to say the Supreme Court will al...

Can't let the government start arresting people for crimes they might commit... that road ends at scary places.

For the record, it was against the law before the SVA to falsely claim an MOH... only award with that protection. And of course, regardless of whether you claim military service... defrauding people or agencies is against the law. Point in fact, all the SVA does is make it illegal to be a jerk. Mayb...

Check out the First Law series by Joe Abercrombie. IMHO, his stuff is much better than Martin (or Tolkien, for that matter... always found LoTR to be pretty overrated). Probably the first fantasy author to take the genre in a different direction since Jordan. As an added bonus... he actually FINISHE...

Thanks for your answers. I didn't know there had been so many of them. Which brings me to my next question : why did it stop ? Too much hassle ? Not enough buyers ? Too much drama, I suspect. As I recall... the last time it happened, what should have been a nice gesture from Spyderco to it's fans e...
