I was waiting on an HVAC repairman to fix the chiller on a laser one night at work and he finally gave up whittling on a braided hose with a stockman that hadn't been sharpened since his grandpa gave it to him. After he gnawed on it for a minute with side cutters, I cut through it in one clean ...

Limited to "an ideal EDC" knife I would start with the elegance and ergonomics of the Stretch 2, change the clip to deep pocket wire, change the blade to D2 and remove the scoop ( like a Catbyrd with no recurve).

In the original format:
Weight: 3.5 Ounces
Handle: FRN
Blade Type: Plain, 50/50 Choil ...

I use it as a money clip, but I also use a ZDP-189 Caly Jr. for the same purpose depending on what I am doing.

I would LOVE to see a Salsa sprint run in any current Spyderco steel and would even be happy to see it in either of the Byrd steels.

Tsunami = big wave. Quite a few people have cut part of the Spyder Hole out of their knives to make them function like an Emerson Wave. I have Cara Cara Rescue that I have never carried because I wasn't excited about the sheepsfoot but your wharncliff looks great.

Well done. I WILL have one of those with a tsunami as soon as I can get an evening alone with my Dremel and belt sander.

Blue Dodo
Black Dodo
Caly Jr (SE VG-10 to compliment the ZDP-189 already in my pocket)

The Urban will probably be a good substitute for the SE Caly Jr but nothing in the current line-up comes close to the Dodo. As long as we are dreaming, flat ground recurve, hawksbill and wharncliff versions would ...

I think a dragonsalt would make the perfect first Spyderco since it would be sized for smaller hands, would be a great steel to learn to sharpen on and would be built to take the abuse of being put away wet or ran through the washer in pants pockets.

I like it. Much like the lock on any locking pocket knife, it serves no purpose the great majority of time but is incredibly useful every once in a while. As long as my knives don't look too ornamental, I don't care how they look.

Does anyone have any experience stropping zdp-189?

My preferred method of sharpening is to strop and then add a toothy micro bevel with the sharpmaker. I'm concerned that the 420J2 on the Caly Jr. will wear faster than the zdp during stropping and expose more of the zdp. Is this an issue?

Is there any reason to think that stropping won't work well ...

An office EDC with a ZDP-189 blade seems excessive. Do you really need a supersteel to open envelopes at the office?

I think that VG-10, S30V, or any other decent steel would do the job just fine.

A letter opener would work even better for letters but the point is to have an office presentable ...
