Re: dragonfly 1 lockback defect?
Donut, I think the lockbar sits a bit farther down into the lock cutout on the tang of the blade causing the release end (w/boye dent in this case) to raise up a bit more causing a gap below itself and the release cutout on the handle. It locks up better than most of my other lockbacks with zero pla...

dragonfly 1 lockback defect?
The other day I found one of my old Spydercos. It is a dragonfly 1 with aus-8 steel, boye dent, and etched spyderco logo on the blade (one of the more recent aus-8 models before they switched to VG-10). It has hardly been used. It is dull w/ minor tip scratches, but still has the factory edge intact...

VG-10 steel? IMO the very tip of a knife with a factory edge may be sometimes brittle due to the heat involved when sharpening. More so since this is a SE model. Since Spyderco knives usually have thinner grinds and tips, it seems to be more noticeable. I would bet if you re-shaped the tip and re-sh...

I've got a few used SE dragonflies off ebay that had a fairly trashed edge. As far as the serrations that are blunted, you can't add any metal back. You can restore the serrations back to a sharp functioning edge though. This is what I did. First, tape off the blade right above the serration grinds ...

I've probably had about 50-60 spyderco knives through the years. Aside from the occasional slightly uneven factory edge, I haven't had many problems. I did get a Salt 1 once that wasn't peened properly at the pivot and had big-time side to side play. I sent it in and a few weeks later I got a new on...

Does anyone else polish the inside of the round hole opener?
I bought a few dragonfly and delica 3 models recently. I noticed on most all of them (especially the older aus-8 and ats-55 ones) that there were machine marks, and/or "tits" or large burrs from the cutting of the opening holes. While this doesn't affect the function of the knife, I though...

Today I took part of an old trash bag and put it over the end of the t9 bit and got to remove my clip. Before I took it off i noticed one side of the clip wasn't making contact with the scale fully, so I carefully bent it in to the right position. A bit of loc-tite and it's ready to go. NOTE: I did ...

My new dragonfly 2 salt: the good, bad and observations.
I purchased this knife to carry with me after a recent move from the country to a nice suburban neighborhood. I have several dragonfly models (they are one of my favorite designs) but this is my first H1 variation. I find it to be a great all-around urban carry EDC. Here is my short-term review: I'l...

do the new SS Dflys have jimping yet?
I figure since the new dragonfly 2, dragonfly salt, G-10 dragonfly, and the CF dragonfly all have jimping, the stainless ones should too. Anyone have a newer SS dragonfly to confirm? I know it sounds silly (maybe not to you guys) but I would consider a SS dragonfly if they added jimping to it like a...

40+ bucks for a ladybug ZDP....worth it?
First off, I bought this knife because I had a few extra bucks and wanted a mini pocket knife for my new life here in suburbia (moved from the country). Now, the standard VG-10 model would have served me well, but I decided to go above and beyond for once and get the more expensive model with "...

It's not so much that I prefer pinned construction, it's that I prefer the things pinned construction allows. Namely, bolstered knives with smooth bolsters and all stainless knives with smooth handle slabs. For me, the esthetic quality those features bring to a knife far outweighs any potential ben...

does anyone PREFER pinned construction models?
I have never had a problem with a pinned construction knife. I realize that torx screws make it easier for the good people at spyderco to assemble and service more knives, but I still have to stand by the good 'ol pins. Personally, I think torx are more trouble than they are worth, especially if you...

I got a Gerber mini-swagger (non A/O) last week and the back of the clamshell pack says 7CR17MOV. The factory edge was sharp, so to speak, and held an edge O.K., but I had to seriously thin the edge down when it came time to sharpen it, as most makers give the consumer the thickest edge from the fac...

I couldn't think of a reason to carry anything but an FRN version of the dragonfly. It's just so light! The G-10 and SS versions would be great for a gentleman's carry, but for EDC, the FRN wins out for me every time. G-10...too expensive IMO....SS handles are way too heavy for a knife this small. E...

Are we talking about side-opening autos or OTF autos? IMO autos (especially my mini microtech UTX-70) are faster to open when held side-by-side with a similar sized dragonfly for example. However, when you factor in reaching into the pocket or waistband, drawing the knife, gripping and indexing the ...
