Re: Spydercos for steak knives?

I use an SE Aqua Salt, and it works perfectly. I love being able to put it in the dishwasher without any worry. If you’re buying multiple steak knives, though, I’d go with the SE Z-Cuts.

My native salt was like this when I first got it, but it smoothed out completely with time. Dunno what the problem was.

Re: Still holding out for the Chief In Rex

I had been holding out for this and the s90v/cf version, but finally got impatient. I ordered a k390 Endura and Dragonfly today, along with a Kizer Ursa Minor (I love Ray Laconico designs). I figure that since I like k390 more than rex45, and I already have a rex45 Shaman and s90v/cf Manix XL, there...

Re: They're everywhere!

Rex45 and K390 are the most stable steels of any I’ve used so far. Light impacts or slicing cuts against hard surfaces rarely cause any chipping, rolling, or loss of sharpness in these steel in my experience. K390 in particular is also exceptionally wear resistant and will easily maintain sharpness ...

Re: Sal, Can We Form A Collective, And Order An Exclusive?

If someone makes a website specifically for crowdfunding spyderco exclusives, it would probably be viable. History has proven that there are enough people out there to sell out sprints and exclusives without too much risk for most models, if not always immediately. It would probably need a couple ye...

Re: A New Member with a LOT of Questions!?

I have a wicked edge 2017 gen 3 pro, and I find convexing to be extremely easy on it. I apply diamond lapping films to balsa strops and sharpen like I normally would with the WE diamond plates. Jende has the best lapping films for this because they have grits starting as low as 180g up to .5 microns...

Re: Rex45=Hap40?

AFAIK, depending on where/from whom you get your data, they are either identical or nearly identical in chemical composition. In the real world from my usage/testing Rex45 is a fair bit better in terms of edge retention & toughness , the more popular theory for this difference seems to be heat ...

I’ll be getting one as soon as there is a version in zdp, k390, or something similar. Love the design!

Re: Does S110V actually chip a lot or are people just not using their knives right?

I’ve had occasional chipping, though not more than other steels with similar carbide volumes and hrc. S110v is the only steel I’ve had a knife snap in half from a 2’ drop onto concrete when the knife was closed and didn’t land on the blade, though. Happened with a blurple manix 2.

Re: Plastic Knives are BEST.

While I slightly prefer g10 to frn/frcp, I don’t like liners on any knives that don’t require them for the lock. The extra weight doesn’t really bother me, but liners don’t really add any benefits while creating space for hidden but pervasive rust to creep into the pivot. I’ll take linerless g10 all...

Re: Unpopular opinions

My unpopular opinions: 1 - My opinion is that I don't care if you are a collector or not. 2 - I don't like small knives. Para 3 and smaller are toys in my book. 3 - I don't like the Sebenza, no matter how great people say it is, it doesn't do a thing for me. 4 - I think S30V is great stuff. 5 - I t...

Re: Thicker "harduse" bladestocks / fine tips.. and more - I don´t fully get it

This is the primary reason I love the Manix XL. ~3mm stock (strong enough for a folder), a minimal taper and decently strong tip, and a wide blade with an extra keen primary grind to maximize cutting performance. As far as using a knife for cutting tasks, the XL is among the best in Spyderco’s everg...

Re: Maybe small knives are not TOTALLY awful

The only time I use a knife smaller than the shaman is when I need to not cut too deeply into something. In those circumstances a shorter edge is usually better. The dragonfly is the sweet spot for me. I keep a serrated dragonfly salt on hand at all times, and carry a zdp dragonfly as well when I’m ...

Re: S30V Support Club

Yep, after using high carbide steels for a couple years, getting s30v to hairsplitting sharp from dull takes 5-10 minutes, tops, on a broken in 400 grit diamond plate. Easy enough to have hair splitting straight off the plate as well. Ultimately, sharpening any steel isn’t difficult if you can hold ...

My Manix XLs, Shamans, and Kizer CF/linerlock Gemini are all permanant residents. Once I get the Rex45 and S90V Native Chiefs, those will be added to my permanant list.
