Re: Poll: Preferred steel choice(s) for a Manix 2 XL Sprint or Exclusive?

... Oops. Yeah, I missed the factory fresh part. That said, I’ve never had lasting results with any factory edge. The best I had was my maxamet native, but even that dulled several times faster than the edges I put on my knives. Even so, if the edge has a clean apex, and no burr or excessively stre...

Re: Poll: Preferred steel choice(s) for a Manix 2 XL Sprint or Exclusive?

While I’m not against a sprint in cruwear or 3v, they don’t offer anything s30v doesn’t for me. I’d prefer to see a sprint in something more wear resistant first, like 4v, m4, or an a11 class steel. Hmmm this has not been my experience at all. M4 more wear resistant than Cruwear? S30V in the same c...

Re: Where is the love for the Manix XL??

I think the manix xl is in the same situation as the shaman. There is plenty of interest in the knife, but people are holding out for something other than s30v. I’d assume that a sprint like the bhq natural g10/m4 combo would sell out as easily as the shaman sprint did. Red g10/4v almost certainly w...

Re: s30v spyderco's acceptable

I need a lot more abrasion resistance than s30v offers for my job, but s30v is one of my favorite weekend steels. Well balanced and easy to give an amazing edge.

I primarily use my maxamet manix/Native and m4 shaman at work and my manix xl, s30v shaman, and Caribbean on the weekend.

Re: More K390?

10v, pma11, and k390 are all steels I’d buy without any doubt or hesitation on any manix 2, manix xl, shaman, or native sprint. If sal ever feels like making a non-salt version of the caribbean, these steels are my first hope and choice (unless there is maxamet! We need more maxamet). I’m REALLY hop...

Re: Maxamet vs Cruwear

I abuse my maxamet knives like grimm’s fairy tale stepchildren, and they’ve only had a couple small chips that easily went away with normal sharpening, and a small amount of the tip snapping off twice on the manix (which also went away with normal sharpening). Even at 14dps, Maxamet knives are a lot...

Re: A question about edge bevel

I use diamond lapping films pasted to balsa to sharpen my knives once I reach that last part when reprofiling. This helps to ensure the apex gets hit quickly by slightly convexing the bevel. With repeated sharpenings the bevel becomes a smooth curve into the apex, though the edge is hair splitting l...

Re: Para 2 as EDDC

Without a serious training, which i dont think you have, you should not even dream to carry a knife for SD.Delicas and Enduras are the best choices, due to the fact they had a trainer version. That's a great observation "Spyderwolf" ;) I do carry two Spyders on my person daily and have for over 9 year...

Re: ATR2, Shaman, or maybe Caribbean?

Lately I'm really leaning away from choils. My top 3 knives right now don't have them, and instead have large enough handles and more edge length as a result. I think I like that balance better for large or what I'd call average sized knives. Choils are fine on smaller knives but out of the three y...

Re: ATR2, Shaman, or maybe Caribbean?

My top 3 Spyderco knives are:
1) Caribbean Leaf
2) Shaman
3) Manix XL

The obvious answer is to get both the Caribbean and Shaman! Caribbean first, though. :D

Mine was pretty stiff at first, but broke in nicely after using it at work for a couple weeks. Give it time.

^THIS! I want a k390/natural + m4 manix xl more than anything else at the moment, and I know I’m not the only one hankering for more manix xl sprints. Someone make it happen!

Eezox on knives that never touch food. Edci on knives that do. Never seen a spec of rust even when using 1095 in a downpour while backpacking for 3 days.
