Re: Sharpening tips?
Doc, Time to bust out the loupe and take a look-see. What platform are you using? SM? Freehand? I find that freehand sometimes takes a bit more lift to the butt of the handle at the end of the stroke (no wisecracks on this, Bloke) than we think in order to apex. = the loupe will reveal this. For SM ...

Re: Ouchie! Ouchie!
Finally, a thread that i can weigh in on as an expert. I’m not proud of it, but last Week Tuesday the heel of my d2 chef knife caught a right hand finger. Didn’t feel a thing. Only noticed it by the blood. Thursday nite, I sent the edge of an AEB-l honosuke into a left finger. A very sharp, very too...

Re: Behold! The elusive "Dodofly"!
You guys,
The Dodo is fifty percent handle. If not more. It is the original “designed in the dark” knife. A Dodofly would be like putting snow tires on Sal’s sports car.

In August.

Re: So what's your top 3 favorite steels? and why?
I think you hit a nerve here Sal, this generated some excellent feedback. 1) zdp 189 2) s110v 3) zdp 189 Number four is 20cv. Everything corrodes here. The top three give great performance at the edge, and I am able to stay on top of any rust specks. These will form on the zdp. I have had vg10 and 4...

Re: Knife opened in my pocket.
Bloke, This summer my S110v military came open about 1/4 way when it was clipped in my rt front pocket. Poked about 1 1/2 inches thru the pocket and pants and stabbed my thumb as I was walking. I think I might have disturbed the blade when I was digging in that pocket for a flashlight. I now mind th...

Re: What was your first Spyderco?
Salt I clip it, in '07 or '08. I was into free diving and using a fb Cressi. Saw some pic of Aussies working on open ocean pens, farming tuna. They were using what looked like se enduras. With rust splotches. I figured I could do the same, and when the blade rusted away, just get a new one. My subse...

Use a Dobie as the kitchen sink sponge. Doesn't scratch.

Re: Free hand sharpening techniques
Anagarika has something here. Use the spine height off the stone as your guide. Put the spine on the same place on your thumb pad (or other finger) for each stroke and graze the bottom of that finger across the stone as you stroke. Keep the spine placement on the finger pad consistant and the slight...

Re: The Dodo 2019
I too would like to try a Dodo. My suggestion would be for Spyderco to look into producing a version in bd1N. I have been auditioning this steel in a chef's knife for two months and I am impressed by it. Perhaps that might also keep the end cost down. I like the exotic steels mentioned in the posts ...

Kjav-
Get a loupe.
Look at the edge.
Look at it when you think it is sharp. Look at it when you think it has come dull.
The loupe will show you what is happening.
All else is conjecture.
