Re: Spyderco/Murray Carter Kitchen Knife Collaboration.

I respect Murray Carter and his point of view as a Japanese Lineage holder, which for a Westerner to become at a very young age speaks volumes about the man. He has walked the walk and has earned the right to talk the talk. Mr. Carter has provided me a wonderful education via his DVD educational mat...

Re: Your "return ethics"?

Yep we’re on the same page and yes realize the OP was not cherry picking. Some others have made some great points here. In order to simplify my stance, I say work within the return guidelines of your seller, if they permit buyers remorse returns because they accept it is part of their business mode...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

Agreed and the cool thing is we are figuring out how to sharpen our hone for the task at hand. Maybe I am missing something, Cambertree but is this just 1 knife the PM2 S30V you are having the crumbling blade issue with? If so perhaps it has a flawed heart treatment? Might be worth sending it into S...

Re: Your "return ethics"?

To me returning a knife just because you do not like something is not acceptable, there must be a flaw otherwise I just suck it up take my losses and hope to recover most of my principal selling on eBay. If you bought something from Wal-Mart, and afterwards discovered that it didn't meet your needs...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

Wow Cambertree great researching.

Do you have one of the 1000 King stones Murray Carter favors? It has really impressed me recently they are pretty cheap like $20.00 on Amazon.

As I was reading this I was thinking hmmmm wonder how this wet stone would work for his micro chipping experience?

Re: Your "return ethics"?

Since I do not buy from manufacturers or distributors wholesale or direct if a return needs to be made it goes to the retailer I purchased from Always. My agreement of sale was with the retailers not the manufacturer, they are way down the supply chain before it gets to me and there are at-least 1 p...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

Today I noticed my Spyderco Smock in S30V Had lost it’s factory crisp edge. Without wetting the 1000 Grit King stone Idecided to make a few stropping passes Murray Carter Style using the Vivi style of extreme light pressure. Surprisingly this brought the primary edge right back to toothy phone book ...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

Got a chance to test the blade I put on my 440C Buck today tearing down computer boxes from Dell. The blade was toothy and ripped the cardboard up pretty good. Unfortunatly 440C gets to a working edge after just a few boxes which if that was all I cared about it would keep cutting more boxes without...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

I think we are both adult enough to know even with the wisdom given their is more than a fair amount of showmanship going on with the 3 finger test of sharpness and we both Know Mr. Carter is a rather shameless promoter. Folks just need to apply a good dose of common sense is all. I will go so far a...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

Many good points and yes I learned about the finger test when I was oh I guess 4 years old playing with a serrated steak knife running my finger along it, soon the red came out and marvel of marvels I never even felt the cut. Reckon that was the start of this passion. I respect your opinion but disa...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

Smiles, yep no denying it I am definitely in the Murray Carter camp when it comes to sharpening :) I was just having some fun saying the forum was bored. Their is some truth in that though.... We are at the end of the year 2019 and this has been a strange Spyderco year with all the new policies and ...

The sheer thought of Murray Carter's "3 finger test" for testing sharpness has always had the same effect on me.

Re: Bento Box Customer Service...

This is a funny thread with people defending a retailer and others complaining about their meaningless policies. Bottom line goes like this if you buy from a retailer then the transaction is on them NOT THE MANUFACTURER. They bought from the manufacturer or a wholesale distributor at a Wholesale Pri...

Here is a link to some freehand instructions by Murray Carter. HIs Tutorial videos cover this way more in depth but this is a pretty good summation:
