Re: Chaparral Slipit?

... and before people perhaps say that the UKPK is close to a Slipit Chap: Imo it is not really. - The Chap is a slimmer and shorter (by almost ten percent) package, but offers more blade and edge in relation to the handle length than the UKPK - has more solid built - has a thinner blade stock - has...

Re: Chaparral Slipit?

Doc, you know how I love and admire the Chap, especially as an even for Spyderco unique design in several aspects. And though one of these aspects actually is the supersolid (stop pin - ) backlock, it is still just ONE and since I am all for as many variants as possible of this knife to make more pe...

Re: Incredible Idea - created account for this

So the idea is a Bodacious sprint run in Magnacut and micarta, a way to sell the new shaman alternative model and the allure of magnacut perfectly heat treated by spyderco. The cherry on top though is the naming convention for the sprint run that struck me the other night, "Magna-Carta" ....

Very interesting, totally did not know that. Learned something new, thanks!

... Leaf shapes also make a very good geometry for self defense, as well as a general purpose tool with the belly to slice with. The design works great for what it’s intended for I found that a long, straight cutting edge (like the Stretch offers) actually slices better or at least with more power,...

Re: Lil' Temp 3 & Short Thick Blades

... Note: all thoughts here pertain to SE blades, as I mostly carry SE and do not own a PE LT3. That being said, the LT3LW is one of my favorite folders. While the blade stock is obviously quite thick, the blade is also tall enough that (at least in SE) it's a far more impressive slicer than you'd ...

Re: Lil' Temp 3 & Short Thick Blades

.. On mine the blade won't drop shut without loosening the pivot too far. That makes it a two handed closer. ... No offense, but honest question: Why "a two handed closer"?! Why not just use one of the other (to me actually more convenient and more secure anyway) comp.lock closing methods...

Re: Lil' Temp 3 & Short Thick Blades

I’m also have been contemplating the lil temp as of late. I had the g10 version for awhile and find myself missing it. What I appreciated about it was that I did not have to “think” much when I used it. I generally prefer long thin blades and usually carry the police 4. With that knife and others l...

Re: Lil' Temp 3 & Short Thick Blades

No idea about self defence with folders (though to me the edge curve of the Lil Temp. looks pretty "ANTI"-wharnie, so not what Mike Janich prefers for powerful cuts...) As for the thick stock: - The blade looks to be pretty tall, right from heel to tip, so this should make still for a dece...

Outdoor bread knife is a niche I could see a SE Pac Salt Wharnie in. Discontinued though, right?

As far as I know there has never been a Wharnie Pac Salt (not even in PE), just the smaller Salt 2..

Perhaps you're thinking of the Endura wharnie?

Re: EDC Hygiene: Fixed Blade VS. Folder

I have one dedicated food prep folder (UKPK Salt) for camping use. It only ever sees food and is thoroughly cleaned (no dissembly though, if soap can't get in, dirt can't get out ;-) ). Must be a good one for food prep, very salt 2 -ish (same blade stock thickness and same blade length) which I lik...

Re: Sage series collection - What's the next Sage?

Hello Spyderco fans. New guy here. I have been a fan of the sage series for a long time and have been collecting them for years. I just ordered the last knife I was missing for this collection. What do you all think will be the next knife in this series or what would you like to see? I would person...

Re: Chaparral

I really like my Chap since I got custom (a bit thicker than the original ones) carbon fiber handles for the FRN model. But I don't understand what the 'laser beam edge' is supposed the mean. The Thickness BTE is very comparable to most other EDC-oriented Spydercos. Yes, as far as I can tell with m...

Re: EDC Hygiene: Fixed Blade VS. Folder

I really don’t understand how people run into “food prep” tasks outside of a kitchen so often that EDC knives need to touch food. Do you people lack teeth? Two fold answer: 1.) Yes, I do "run into food prep outside the (my) kitchen" quite often. I am lot on the road by car or bike when wo...

Re: EDC Hygiene: Fixed Blade VS. Folder

Huh, many of these answers surprise me, but I guess not everybody has suffered major health problems like most of my family has. I am what I would say is not unreasonably careful about what I touch before eating. At public restaurants I don't use my hands directly to touch much. I have a premature ...

Re: EDC Hygiene: Fixed Blade VS. Folder

I’ve been musing a little more over this and the more I consider it the more I think a basic Mora with the loose fitting plastic sheath would probably be best suited to your needs. The plastic handle is moulded onto the blade and is a tight seal, the sheath covers not just the blade but most of the...

Re: EDC Hygiene: Fixed Blade VS. Folder

Honestly as someone with a below average immune system Im interested in this answer. I've always been left scratching my head when someone lists food prep as one of their factors for liking or carrying an edc knife design, especially a folder. I just can't wrap my head around the idea of having a k...
