Re: Salt 2 ffg: Difference in opening hole diameter and thumb ramp steepnes between wharnie- and drop point version?

I haven't looked at these enough to know for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if the holes are in different places and the thumb ramps are different. The Caribbean blades differ in this way, or at least the blades close into the handle differently so the hole on the sheepsfoot sticks out from the ...

Salt 2 ffg: Difference in opening hole diameter and thumb ramp steepnes between wharnie- and drop point version?

(I´ve asked this here https://forum.spyderco.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=88925&start=120#p1514630 already, but figured people might overlook the question in that thread, so just copied and pasted it in a dedicated one): Looking at the drop point and the wharnie Salt 2 ffg, it seems like the wharnie has...

Re: Military sprint run with a different handle? :O

That is pretty nice, Gernot! Where did that come from? Those are scales by aramis (aratech.ru) - on the bottom of this page http://aratech.ru/index.php?route=product/search&search=Military&page=2 you should find some Millies with them. Someone on this forum posted pics of his (her?) Aramis Millie s...

Re: Military sprint run with a different handle? :O

Why ruin a great handle when the PM2 already exists? Vivi! I am surprised YOU are asking this... ;) - short blade on the PM2 ?! I think just making the handle shorter at the end would not really change the feel in hand - very rarely people will grab (especially the long) Millie that far back ...

Re: Military sprint run with a different handle? :O

Hmmm... I like the big military handle, both with gloves and without. What I'd really love to see is a Crucarta military, or maybe an OD Green Canvas Micarta K390 Military. Don´t want to derail the thread, but I think a Micarta Millie would feel like a different knife - much heavier and especially ...

Re: Military sprint run with a different handle? :O

..... The Military blade is 4", the handle is 5.5". A lot of designs chase blade to handle ratio, or attempt to pack in as much blade into the handle as possible, approaching a 1:1 ratio. I am not advocating for that, but even still, most blade to handle ratio indifferent designs usually come in wi...

Re: High Performance Delica Excitement

This is only a minor disappointment. On the one hand everytime I sharpen vg10 I am blown away by how well it takes an edge, and it will serve as a true baseline to test the demand for the performance geometry we are all really talking about here. On the other hand I am afraid a large portion of peo...

Re: High Performance Delica Excitement

Hi guys, Sorry to rain on our parade, but I was just informed that the thin Delica cannot be ground in K390, so we're going to have to settle for VG-10. Which is probably OK for a better comparison with a standard Delica. :o sal I actually prefer this in this model...in my experience VG10 takes a v...

Re: Which spyderedge knife is the sliciest?

There's more to it than blade stock thickness, but probably is going to be the Rock Jumper, Delica wharnie, or Caribbean. If you consider other knives that aren't kitchen knives or folders then the ARK wins by a landslide. It's by far the thinnest ground serrations I've seen yet. Totally right! But...

Salt 2 ffg SE.
Agreed. Super slicy!

Yes, 2.5 mm stock in a rather tall blade is just a sensible choice for a cutting tool... And I don´t fear at all that it could be too "weak".
Though JRinFL of course will be right that the dedicated Spyderco kitchen knives are even slicier.

Re: The upcoming Salt 2 ffg: Spydercos (Mini-) Bugout alternative and more? Perfect ultralight hiking knife?

Did not want to start a whole new thread for that minor detail, but can anyone confirm: Looking at the drop point and the wharnie Salt 2 ffg, it seems like the wharnie has the smaller, and the drop point the larger diameter opening hole. This would (and looks like) also make a difference concerning ...

Re: Serrated edge fans

Man I love LC200N. I have never tried whittling with serrated edge till just now and I was pleasantly surprised how well the teeth bite into the wood. I was easily chewing away at a dead crab apple tree branch (Doggy likes to chew on sticks). No damaged teeth and after that abuse the edge was still...

Re: High Performance Delica Excitement

And please... keep the pointy tip of the older generation Delicas! WORD! For me this depends on how much tapering on the spine is going on... If this model tapers exactly like the current Delica, but has a thin, high hollow grind, the tip would get very fine (fragile?!) anyway. Then the a bit reenf...

Wire: ok But please not deep carry... :o Why not for you? I much enjoy the UKPK, Sage, and Chaparral ... moreso than the standard clip on my Seki. I like being discrete and it rides well and deploys easily and doesn't feel any better or worse in hand. CG Just personal preference and of course I ful...

Just to be sure: Some here find this to be "awesome / great... news" - it IS awesome indeed, but isn't this the performance Delica Sal has been talking about several times here already and at one point even asked if we'd like to see this model ? Anyway and however it may be: Great that such a knife ...

Re: High Performance Delica Excitement

...I hope to see knife afis get as excited about superior geometry as they do about steel selection. Knife afis still want small folders with almost 4mm thick blades... I think the starting point for good, performance geometry is thinner blade stock (or at least this is the parameter that is the ha...
