Re: Stretch 1 / Stretch 2 - a little nostalgia and wouldn´t there be a place for both of them?

Sharpened my friend’s Stretch 2 and to my surprise, the edge length is shorter than my HAP40 because of larger & deeper finger choil. The handle feels more robust because it’s taller in several areas, but doesn’t ‘hug’ my fingers because of the reduced ‘hook’ at the end/butt. I think I like old...

Re: Stretch without Sal´s makers mark?

Yes, some VG-10 FRN Stretch 1's do not have Sal's mark on them. I have one like that and know it's real because I was in the Collectors Club at the time and it has my CC number on the blade. FWIW, there are also at least some CF/ZDP189 Stretch 1's without his mark. Thanks a lot!! That´s great news,...

Re: EDC/Flight Bag Knife?

Though I already was aware of the Chaparral LW, this thread made me look more into it, thank you! Always thought that someday I´d would get a Dragonfly as a knife to clip into the waistband of a short while trail-running, now I consider the Chaparral beeing maybe the better option - closed length is...

Stretch without Sal´s makers mark?

Just a brief question, maybe somebody can help me out, would appreciate that: Had a Stretch 1 in VG 10 which I lost unfortunately some years ago. Immidiately I purchased a new one. Unlike my first Stretch, the replacement does not have Sal´s Makers Mark on the blade. Should I be worried, or were the...

Re: 16th century "Delica" - and YOUR traditional knifes?

My good ole American Case Ridgeback Hunter. I wish Spyderco would make a collaborative model with Case. I guess in a sense the Moran Skinner Blade is just that: This basic shape can go back all the way to the ancient times. CaseRidgebackHunter2.jpg The design looks great, but quite "modern&quo...

Re: Serrated January

Surprislingly seldom mentioned, but where Spyderco serrations really excell is in making feathersticks/shavings for firestarting. When I was more into some bushcraft - stuff, I really liked carrying my combo edge Delica for that purpose (it´s amount of serrated edge is enough for the task of making ...

For people that didn't live up the country, the pocketknife was the best knife they had and was used for very different things.
Exactly like I do with my pocketknife(s)... even if i didn´t HAVE to necessarely... ;)

Re: 16th century "Delica" - and YOUR traditional knifes?

Since I spent many years in the area, I'm going to go with a pattern that goes back to at least the 1600's. The Hudson Bay Camp Knife. From what I've read, this pattern was popular with trappers, hunters and frontiersmen in Canada & the US during the 1600's & 1700's. Specifically the Hudson...

Re: 16th century "Delica" - and YOUR traditional knifes?

In the Netherlands we don't have much of a traditional knife. Our fathers usualy carried a ''Herder" from Solingen, you may know the type as the Sodbuster. But in Flanders there was the Lierenaar. A simple folder from the city of Lier. https://i.postimg.cc/SxTsZKRV/Lierenaar-Together-Opened.jp...

Re: Stretch 1 / Stretch 2 - a little nostalgia and wouldn´t there be a place for both of them?

The changes seem so subtle to me that I don’t really care which one I have. If I had to nitpick I would say that I like the blade shape better on the “1” and that I find that the “2” fits my hand better with gloves on which for me is a plus. I am pretty indifferent to the choil change. Both choils ...

Re: Stretch 1 / Stretch 2 - a little nostalgia and wouldn´t there be a place for both of them?

If both is in production at same price point, I wonder which will be a better seller? Right, that would be interesting to find out... I guess people who want to own only one or two Spydies would lean towards buying the Stretch Two, if only for it's maybe more eyepleasing looks. Serious Spydie colle...

Re: Haven’t bought any Spyders for quite a while...

I'd suggest: Get the discontinued Stretch 1 first as long as is to be found, and get the Stretch 2 later... I wish it’s still around. Fitting very well to my hand (I only have HAP40). Edit to add: saw your thread about this. I like 1 better though 2 feel more robust. :D So at least one person took ...

Re: Stretch 1 / Stretch 2 - a little nostalgia and wouldn´t there be a place for both of them?

For me One is just a better knife, I have never understood that "improvement". If I'd be forced to rank the Stretch One and Two, I'd also slightly prefer the One. So I am with you: Imho The Two is not an improvement in itself, but rather almost a new design just based on the One. My initi...

Re: Stretch 1 / Stretch 2 - a little nostalgia and wouldn´t there be a place for both of them?

Thanks for your reply, Angarika! It reads as if you also would be fine with BOTH versions to be still in production? As said, imo the TWO is a great knife, but feels almost too different in several aspects to be just an updated version of the One. I do not own the Stretch Two currently, and would pr...
