Re: Martial Arts Experiences Discussion Thread

First let me say throughout my 65 years (come this May)... of being involved with Martial Arts I have had many instructors/teachers and I can honestly say there was not a single teacher that I didn’t learn something from. Even if it were to learn how not to teach something or someone. As a teacher I...

Re: First Wharncliffe ... been thinking about these for a while

Wharncliffe blade designs are very good for general edc tasks and utility. It is one of the more effective blades for Self Defense as they are very effective for slices, where most small knives are only good for stabbing..I have done meat cutting tests for many years and something like a yojimbo,or ...

Re: Anybody here wrestle in High school?

I wrestled in high school 3/4’s of one season. As a seasoned Martial Artist by the time I reached high school I went to watch our school team wrestle out of curiosity and fascination. Two days before our first match the student who wrestled the 99lb-101lb weight class died in a car accident, and as ...

Re: Sling Shots: No Longer A Kid's Toy

I had a Dennis the Menace type as a real young child and some my father made for me from broken tree limb Y pieces with wide flat rubber bands, a couple of wrist rockets back in the 70’s, a lot of fun but after a while my forearm would hurt from the pressure applied and I lost interest.... went off ...

Re: Martial Arts Experiences Discussion Thread

I too am small, 5’6 118lbs soaking wet...the most difficult fighters to fight is someone your own size, weight, and arm length... so you are so right about studying with an instructor whose size is similar to yours... not a absolute but true nonetheless..

Re: Martial Arts Experiences Discussion Thread

The original word Karate is an Okinawan term which breaks into two parts Kara and Te. Kara was the name in Okinawan for the ruling class in China during the Tang Dynasty. Kara means Tang Dynasty sometimes referred to as Just China. Te means anything that has been handed down by the Chinese. Thus Kar...

Re: Victorinox photo and discussion thread!

I only own one Victorinox It’s their Paring Knife.
This lightweight fixed blade makes for a very effective little Pikal/RGEI fighter and pretty useful utility knife. Coupled with a custom kydex pocket sheath, a nice package for very little cost... it’s part of my daily pocket carry...

Re: Martial Arts Experiences Discussion Thread

I am often asked if MMA is an effective Martial Art for street defense. My answer, MMA is a sport, based on fighting skills and tactics. As a sport it has rules which protect the participants from serious injury. Look for the list of all the things you are not allowed to do in the ring ... this list...
