Re: Oregon Knife Collectors Association Show April 12-14!

Just a little heads up!

I’ll be doing a little something at the show for members of Spyderco Forums and BladeForums. So if you have a chance, stop by table S06 with your screen name. :)

No I won’t tell you why. 😂

Re: Your Experiences with Votix Dragonfly Scales?

You already know my experiences with both the older Votix CF scales, and the Flytanium titanium scales from over on BF…. But I have heard that Votox has made some good improvements. I think you’ll really enjoy the flytanium scales. I love mine. One thing to note is that some of the dragonfly models ...

Re: Catcherman LC200N Sprint Run

How well are these cutting out in the wild? I’m thinking about picking one up since the blade stock is so thin! Should be a light saber! Hamilton It will be another two or three weeks before I can test it on trout…. But it goes through receipt paper and thin magazine paper like a hot knife through ...

Re: Knifejoy Exclusive...Slysz Bowie??!!

RGT is now selling screw sets for the Slysz Bowie. Not sure why, but here you go: https://rippsgaragetech.com/collections/slyzs-bowie That’s tempting. I dig titanium hardware and use RGT hardware (as well as BWL hardware) on a lot of my knives. I really like the finish on the stock hardware though....

Re: Knifejoy Exclusive...Slysz Bowie??!!

I don't know if it's been said already but many people gave a feedback saying that T8 plus bits fits way more nugly in the pivot of this Bowie run. I had read that too. I'm actually the guy on BladeForums that has been touting using Torx Plus bits on a lot of knife models for the past three years. ...

Re: Knifejoy Exclusive...Slysz Bowie??!!

I can’t imagine that they have pivots from the 1st gen, but who knows… I requested that the pivot be removed, and replaced with a new one sans loctite, and was told that wouldn’t be a problem. I imagine it will be the same 2nd gen pivot. The contact the t8 makes with the 2nd gen pivot should be ple...

Re: Knifejoy Exclusive...Slysz Bowie??!!

In my experience Spyderco rarely answers their emails unfortunately. You should have better luck if you call. I don’t know that they would be able to give you the information though. The gentleman that I talked to was under the impression that both pivots are the same.

Re: Knifejoy Exclusive...Slysz Bowie??!!

Sorry for not being clear. By pivot depth, I meant how far you can insert a torx bit into the drive of the screw head. The 2nd gen is much more shallow so a Torx can’t be inserted deep enough for really good contact with the torx bit. Both pivots are T8. The WIHA and PB Swiss bits both fit in the pi...

Re: Knifejoy Exclusive...Slysz Bowie??!!

Spyderco returned my call today. The gentleman was very brusque... And almost seemed annoyed with me? I was a little bewildered as I thought the message I had left was very respectful. First he informed me that he didn't think there had been any changes to the pivot of KnifeJoy exclusive Slysz Bowie...

Re: Is this the knife everyone clamors for?

I love the blade, and dislike the handle (much like the Shaman). They just don’t work for my small hands, and the handle is too long for the blades imo.

You should see how they started pricing their GEC releases. :(

I tried my best to wait for DLT Trading, but got impatient. Northwest Knives is a go (great company too)!

Re: Knifejoy Exclusive...Slysz Bowie??!!

Seems to be a T8. My Wiha bits have a tiny amount of slop, but my PB Swiss T8 fits it as tightly as it fits any of my other T8 pivots. It’s the permanent loctite that seems to be the issue. It took a shockingly low amount of torque to partially strip the pivot too. I can’t imagine this was intended...

Re: Chaparral

I think focusing on steel with the Chaparral LW is a fantastic idea. Especially now that there are multiple CNC scale makers that are making high quality scales for the Chaparral LW from all kinds of materials. I’m not usually a fan of serrated knives, but that chaparral looks like a winner! With th...

Re: Thoughts on the spymyto???

I held it at the Amsterdam meet. It looks good. But personally not a fan of it. Its has a typical lionsteel blade. (Thick behind the edge) So cutting performance will not be like the typical spydie. Not that it will be bad offcourse. But it will feel strange compared to a normal spydie. How was the...
