Re: The most reliable locking mechanism Spyderco uses?

I am not interested in arguing this assertion, but for a reality check I and perhaps for newcomers to the knife world who may read this thread, I would like to point out: Oh well, the new Aristotle; this forum lacked a pedagogue Which is to say that it is only opinion. This is an opinion. Well, no....

Re: The most reliable locking mechanism Spyderco uses?

And you know that for a fact because... That liner locks suck or that they exist only for flip your blade out? The first by my experience and the second it's an obviousness. When i was a collector i bought a lot of liner/frame lock knives, and i was fine with them until the day that i tried to use ...

Of course you're free to share your opinion, no matter how rediculous. However you should not phrase it as if it were fact.

It's not up to you to decide what I should or should not do.

I would not trust a liner lock to succeed in that as much as a back-lock.

Liner locks are just a mess. The only motive why liner locks are still on the market is because you can't flip your knife with a back lock.

Re: LC200N or BD1N

The only thing that M390 and namesakes gain over S90V/S110V is a slightly higher corrosion resistance (obviously with the right HT); S90V has double the wear resistance of M390 at the same toughness level. i want back Aus-8, with a good HT. If all the S30V/VG10 Spydies were redone tomorrow with Aus-...

Re: Spyderco Bushcraft Vs. Sustain

What do you want to use it for? If you want a woodcarving tool the only answer should be the Bushcraft, but the low saber grind is a suboptimal choice If you want a slicer the Proficient should be good, it has the best geometry but the steel isn't "hard use", especially if you lower the be...

I forged for a while, but not too many knives made. Most of my designs that I feel are "good enough", I will usually make a production run, like the Respect.

It'd be interesting see some of your knives :)

Re: Different edge angles?

Zero grind on all high carbide steel knives and they have the primary grind in the 2.5/5 dps.
If you do that they continue to tear things even when they have the edge like a ball bearing ;)

Lots of different meanings floating around of "custom knife". Do you mean hand made by the man himself?

That's right ;)

Fantastic knife; it resembles a Buck 110 :D

SiC is slightly harder than VC

I've seen contrastants data reports, where sometimes VC is harder and sometimes SiC is harder.
It's to consider that the shape, the size and the orientation of the crystals is an important factor on how they behave.

Re: Is this edge wear normal?

Some people advocate that using abrasives softer than VC you can't have a good edge on high Vanadium steels. This isn't true. I thought the same thing before trying it. I sharpen all my knives on Alox sandpaper or on Alox/SiC stones and i can attain a better edge than that with diamond plates; there...
