Re: 16th century "Delica" - and YOUR traditional knifes?

I must say that I really like those simple old folding knives. Specialy those with a folded metal handle. Like the Mercator from Germany. A midlock with a handle made of pressed steel. Very useful and without bladeplay. https://i.postimg.cc/TPkVKjcT/k55.jpg Which in turn was the inspiration for the ...

Re: 16th century "Delica" - and YOUR traditional knifes?

Yes Wartstein, I think it does compare well to the Native.
It shares the blade shape, geometry and the robustness.
For people that didn't live up the country, the pocketknife was the best knife they had and was used for very different things.

Re: 16th century "Delica" - and YOUR traditional knifes?

In the Netherlands we don't have much of a traditional knife. Our fathers usualy carried a ''Herder" from Solingen, you may know the type as the Sodbuster. But in Flanders there was the Lierenaar. A simple folder from the city of Lier. https://i.postimg.cc/FF3Y9mCs/Lierenaar-Old-Opened.jpg http...

Re: How often do you carry a fixed blade?

Quite often really. It gives me the choice of a very sharp folder and a near indestructable knife. Usually my DB copy, in M390, carried inside the belt. https://i.postimg.cc/q75bhjfz/IMG-2250.jpg Or when I feel like it, my Jerry Brouwer Nezumi. In a IWB sheath. https://i.postimg.cc/m2Dtrgzy/IMG-1025...

Re: Alcyone a sporty gentlemans knife

I got my Acyone at the Amsterdam meet, last march. It's my work knife since then. It's easy to live with and does all I want from it. The action is nice and smooth and it is especially easy to close single handed. A very useful feature in a work situation. Makes it a very good everyday compagnion.

Re: Maxamet Native 5 - first thought

!.4 grams? It is called tolerance. You keep it tight where it needs to be. Less where it is not important.
I have one of those and I do like it.
Knives like these make good workknives.

That is correct.
Mr. Wood made it to a drawing provided by the customer.
He said it was ''a ***** to grind''.

For good measure, here a picture of an original one.
Blade is usualy around 7 inches, sharp on both sides.

Fixed Shabaria

I came across this knife on British Blades. Made by Alan Wood, well known for the Woodlore bushcraft knife. I think it looks rather well. http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n202/Piet-S/shaba-1_zps3961914b.jpg http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n202/Piet-S/shaba2_zpsadf6915b.png http://i113.photobuck...

The Buffalo would be great!!! I fully agree, I have one with a damascus blade and mammoth scale. But the plain ones are great too. It is wonderful in the hand for such a large folder. http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n202/Piet-S/IMG_0127-1.jpg http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n202/Piet-S/Orange...

True that, and there are nerves and an artery where it wil strike if you are fooling with it. And that tip goes deep. I suggest you search some information about karambits. Steve Tarani is a name to remember when it comes to this subject. Did I say I love these little knives? http://i113.photobucket...

Or not at a workingplace that does incorporate some real world risk.

If there is anything that can mess with this design, it is overtightening the screw of the stop-pin.
Just how smooth is the blade action?
And is the original spacer still in place.
