I was unable to see that, getting the following message :

We have a superstition that you should never give a knife as a gift. You must sell it to the recipient, who then pays you one cent for it. Otherwise you will be dogged by bad luck !

Another use for damaged hard drives : strip them down and remove the so-called voice coil magnet(s). These are usually kidney-shaped. thin, about 40 mm long and incredibly powerful. They have many uses. such as holding knives and other ferrous objects in place. But keep them away from small kids. Be...

Great outcome ! But here in South Africa the girl would have been charged with murder/attempted murder, and the rapist would have got bail, allowing him to continue to ply his trade. I sometimes think that all judges and magistrates should be raped as part of their training, to let them know exactly...

Thanks, guys, for those wishes. I have not posted much lately, due to pressure of a newish hobby : astronomy ! But I do still pop in and lurk every now and again. One post mentions that the aluminium (yes, that is how WE spell it) Herbst is often mistaken for the titanium model. How exactly do you t...

I had a very similar experience with a C-Class Mercedes Benz. Turned out to be bad contact with fuel pump relay and its socket. I just pulled the bugger out and plugged it back in again a few times. Problem solved ! I now keep a spare relay in the glove box, but have not needed it yet. Sort of an An...

It's amazing what information the Net can provide for ANY interest, ranging from flea circuses to particle physics ! I have not aqui...

If we are too hygenic, our immune systems could get lazy and forget how to deal with day-to-day bacteria. So the use of wooden boards is fine, as long as they are washed soon after use. A product to be careful of is chicken, as it can have salmonella. This is killed by cooking temperatures, but uten...

I seem to remember Sal saying that a glass cutting board would not blunten a serrated blade unduly, as the tips of the serrations take the strain, leaving the cutting edges untouched. I have mixed feelings about this, but agree totally that that glass is the easiest substance to sanitise.

In junior school we did woodwork. Before sawing through a plank, we would cut a "saw kerf" with a "striking knife", to guide the start of the saw cut. This knife had a short double-edged blade at one end and long spike at the other. I never did figure out the true use of the spik...

For every gallon of kerosine burned, one gallon of water is generated into the space. This can result in damp on walls, in furniture, clothes etc. This info is from my days with Building Research. We studied the effects of this sort of heating and cooking in low income housing. BTW we call kerosine ...

I quite agree with you. Unfortunately most people who own dogs are not nearly as conscientious as you are. Thus the authorities have to enact laws placing restrictions on dogs. Here, there are similar laws, but they are seldom, if ever, enforced. This is due to the Police being understaffed, underpa...

Our kitchen has a wooden block with Wilkinson Sword knives. Some time ago they were joined by a Santoku. The block had to be modified to accomodate the width of the Santoku. Now the others see very little cutting time ! I keep a wary eye on this knife. No dishwashing : no lying on the metal sink : n...

I have a Ti/SE. Not by choice, though. I would have liked the PE, but none were available, so a SE had to do. But it is still a GREAT knife. As JD said above, the Ti model is completely different to the SE one.

I see that the Ti/SE ATR is still available at NGK for $208 !
