Re: Community Sharpening Journal
Just lock your wrist more so it doesn't cause the blade to wobble when moving back and forth. Thank you, I appreciate the tip. There might be more useful tips in this video. https://youtu.be/nHrGs3hCzgg Why do you deburr with edge trailing passes on the stone? Edge trailing passes create more burr ...

Re: Coated CBN > Coated Diamond ~ Please Expand!
Work sharp pocket sharpeners also have CBN coated plates, 325 grit . They seem to cut extremely well. It's easier to get a hair whittling edge off my $15 worksharp pocket sharpener than my 325 grit DMT. Sal, that is great news! Really?? I thought (and their webpage says) diamond plate (320 grit) Is...

Re: New to the knife scene
I buy from ebay, but I've only spent more than $200 on a knife once. I don't buy from shameless flippers that nearly double the retail price. $365 is absolutely nuts IMO. But ebay in general isn't bad. Just stick to reputable sellers that have coherent descriptions and good pictures. I buy used kniv...

Re: K390 PM2 | Testing
Wow, I was certainly hoping for close to the same HRC as the police 4. Ultimate performance is key for a steel that will rust if you look at it wrong.

Re: K390 PM2 | Testing
Good stuff, thanks. Surprised at how uneven the grind was. I don't mind bevels being uneven when freehand sharpening. I just keep the angle as consistent as possible and disregard the bevel. I've never had a spyderco show up as uneven as this one did though. Surprising.

Re: CPM M4 vs K390
M4 is a great all around steel. BBB however made it apparent that there is a huge difference in strength between M4 and K390. M4 is probably a tad tougher, but at 65 HRC (K390) vs 62-63 HRC (M4) that's expected. Sharpenability seems to be very similar imo, yet edge holding and apex strength is far i...

Does Norton make diamond hones? Or did the subject just get changed? Dang. Apologies. Yes they do. And I actually just found exactly what I was looking for. https://www.aaabrasives.com/norton-11-1-2-x-2-1-2-x-3-8-coarse-325-grit-45-micron-diamond-bench-stones?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIkoeMzdvq5QIVFBx9Ch2uq...

That makes sense. ThanksCambertree wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2019 9:03 amAs far as I recall, before the Caribbean came out, I think Sal said they actually took various prototype colours to different parts of the world, diving down to about 8 metres to test visibility and the bumblebee yellow and black contrast worked pretty well.

Re: Change Caribbean Scales to Rastafarian colors?
It turns out people love the current scales and wouldn't dare adding some green and red. Evidently this model is to remain ARBITRARILY named the Caribbean. Lol Nothing arbitrary about it at all. Sal can correct me if I am wrong, but the Salt models are named after Oceans and Seas, not islands, cont...

Re: Smith stones vs DMT stones.
I put 15 years on a C and 15 on a XC, both still cut when they got misplaced. Given back then I was sharpening Gerber 400's, I know they last a long time.

Re: Smith stones vs DMT stones.
The topic required a little research! DMT stones were the first of its kind I do believe. They’ve patented their process of developing their products. Via how its made SCI/DSC network the diamond dust is put on steel plates and are embedded into the steel by scientific process making a permanent bo...
