Re: My Native 5 Maxamet

If recommend finishing on diamond (or CBN) anywhere from 600-2000 grit and some brief stropping. A highly polished edge is fine for pushcutting, but it will take a while to obtain and isn't ideal for all edc tasks. Ending on 1000-2000 grit and some stropping will pushcut just fine and slice a lot be...

Re: H1

Short serrated blades are less practical for most people's uses. Serrated blades are made for draw cuts. The dragonfly platform begs for a steel that excels at pushcutting. Unless you're like me and occasionally need toughness, I'd look for a model in LC200N.

Re: Advantages of 4 " (plus) blades?

Vivi brought up good points.

In my irrelevant experience, cutting extra thick rope essentially requires a blade the size of an Endura or larger. And I also cannot stress how convenient larger handles are for extended use (especially with gloves).

Research it. And yes I've used k390.
Don't the mules run a bit harder? Either way, K390 is no slouch and has excellent edge strength.

The intros to Pete's videos are gold.
Shouldn't be much harder than the police, which is close to 64.

Re: More K390?

This is probably the best steel, all around, that spyderco has ever offered. I like M4 a lot because at the hardness it's offered at it is a tougher option than k390, but k390 from a high performance standpoint has it all (aside from corrosion resistance). More k390 is always good. What makes you s...

Re: A question about edge bevel

Not once did I refer to edge finish..... Push cutting (polish) ability and slicing ability (toothy) correlate to edge finish. With Geometry, you would want them thin either way. Thinner always cuts better but requires a better user to use it. A polished edge is thinner but it's doesn't apply to the...

Re: A question about edge bevel

While that device is a good measure of sharpness, it more measures cutting ability. Sharpness is a physical measurement of the width of the apex. As you noted apex angle affects results, and to a much smaller extent, apex stability will as well. Cutting ability is different that's the thickness or ...

Re: A question about edge bevel

If your overall inclusive angle isn't too obtuse and you have proper apex formation, you'll see good performance. Symmetry isn't an absolute necessity. Chisel grinds have their place in food prep. Just do what works for you.

Re: Native Chief - Can we get a heartbeat?

The direction this thread took is exactly why I don't post here as often as I used to. I'm reluctant to weigh in but I have some unique insights on this subject that I think would be helpful to my friends here at the forum. For the record, I'm looking forward to the new Native Chief. I truly don't ...

Re: Native Chief - Can we get a heartbeat?

Thanx. Actually Eric and Tom went over this model with the engineers for quite a while before making the decision to make it liner-less. We've done a lot of experimenting lately and you can see a lot in the many different designs and options. It surprises me that some would think to make decisions ...

Re: Native Chief - Can we get a heartbeat?

It cannot be measured how proud of you I am currently. The thought of you jogging through the woods with a 4max in your soccer shorts hurts my own balls. To some, it is obvious that spyderco has been wasting it's resources on designing knives with liners. Wow, why did they ever concoct such a worth...

Re: Native Chief - Can we get a heartbeat?

It's linerless for ease of production/price/profit margin. Not because it's the best choice for it as a (user) knife. lol? its the best construction option for me. I have linerless FRN and G10 knives that have been subjected to over a decade of frequent use and they work fine. Got a linerless folde...

Feel like this had to be posted here too so it's not lost in the Amsterdam thread. This is probably my most anticipated knife of 2019. Always wanted a bigger native and the shaman wasn't quite big enough. Glad I held out for this design. This is absolutely amazing. I think this will be the best fol...

Re: Native Chief - Can we get a heartbeat?

The way I see it is like this:

Ask every pm2 user "don't you wish those pesky steel lines were gone?"

After they give you a weird look, I guarantee most will say no.

Re: Native Chief - Can we get a heartbeat?

I have to say that the Native Chief was my favorite of the new knives that Spyderco showed at the meet. Call it nostalgia, as I remember seeing that concept design on the forums back in 1999 or so. This was back in the day, when you had to put a knife on a flatbed scanner, cover it with a cloth and...
