Re: The Superior Delica

Looks like a great job on that spoon. Are you sanding it smooth? What grit? Thanks! I don't plan on sanding this one, no. That said, if the woman says she'd prefer it sanded - I'll sand it. I have some 320 grit that would smooth it up quite a bit and nicely. I could go up to 1K or 2K if there was a...

Re: The Superior Delica

Had the Cruwear Delica in my pocket today. Went out on the back porch with a cup of fresh ground, french press coffee. There was frost on the grass. Deceided to carve a spoon for a lady I work with. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49256176977_8cdf2ebdaa_k.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

I had a few knives I worked on yesterday. Police LW, an Opinel, Manix XL and a Queen stockman. They had all been sharpened on my medium stone, and I wasn't happy with their slicing ability. Dropped them all down to a DMT XC finish, and now I'm much happier. I also added a new sharpness test to my r...

Re: The Superior Delica

Great job finishing the AT!! Thank you very much! An amazing experience to be sure! Great post. Although not exactly what you're wishing for a LC200N FFG Salt 2 would tick some of your boxes. I hope this variation of the Salt 2 becomes a reality sooner or later. Agreed - it would & yes, that would ...

Re: The Superior Delica

I'm a Delica fan also. As has been posted numerous times in this tread (great thread by the way) it is such a "jack of all trades" knife, and pretty easy to modify a little too (if one would feel so inclined - I am one of those who feel/felt so inclined) I like a lot of different Spydercos for sure....

Re: Shaving sharp off a reprofiling stone

Nice job ViVi! I've come to very much like how the blue DMT leaves my edges. Like you show in your video with the black XC DMT, it will easily shave, and cut thin paper no issue. Seeing you do it up with the black DMT is peaking my curiosity. I bet that is a VERY "grabby" "toothy" edge! Thanks for s...

Re: SALT knives counterfeits?

Hi Wartstein, I've seen a few YT videos of fake salt knives. I wanna say it was the dragonfly models that were in the video(s). So there's a chance that there are indeed fake other kinds of salts as well. As to a quick (overnight) rust test. I think it would depend on the steel used in the fake. No?...

Re: Do you immediately sharpen a new Spyderco?

I'll use it for a half a day or so, maybe a day, usually not as long as two - to see how that initial factory edge performs. By "use" I do mean going out of my way, intentional use, cutting up lots of boxes, various cordage, in the kitchen, etc... The whole time that little bit of unground metal rig...

Re: One hand opening

I think it's safe to say we're all on the same page with the simple, yet so amazingly brilliant Spyder hole. It is the reason I love and carry spydercos. Same reason I put big ole' hand loops on the zippers of most of the things I own. When my fingers are useless and my hands are more or less stumps...

@ Baron Mind - If you "couldn't resist a version with upgraded steel", you'll be happy to know ZDP-189 has long since been made and available on the Dragonfly 2.

Very cool video ViVi, Thanks for sharing! I saw that the video is from 2 years ago now. Have you changed anything about how you sharpen serrated knives in that time?

Re: Ikuchi - fantastic knife!

Check to make sure the blade tip isn't high enough in, or 'just' above, the handle when the blade is closed that it can grab and cut you. Mine definitely was, and did cut me a few times before I figured out what was going on and fixed it (ground down/dropped the tip on a sharpening stone).

Re: Who else is getting an Ikuchi as soon as they are released?

Got my Ikuchi Tuesday and am very much liking this knife. It did however, bite me decently on the back of my leg, index finger, and thumb. The tip was just high enough to get me, and get me it did... Spent a little time dropping the point down just a little on stones so it doesn't stab, cut, grab or...

I may have to do that to the upcoming Para 3 LW!
I was thinking the exact same thing! Doing that - or something a lot like that.

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

Thank you doeswhateveraspidercan & The Meat Man! Yes Jazz, I've definitely been using it - to include on this cup. I kept the bte at 0.019" and refined the primary a bit with some higher grit stones to take out a lot of the scratches from the rougher stones, from where I thinned it. I also took a li...
