The day before is almost as exciting as the day itself. Sometimes the 13th is just another lucky number.

Get to know the system(s) you are using. Strong points and limitations.

Did a few for my wife who uses them for quilting. Had better results with a bit higher quality scissors.
Had to use both brain cells but if she is happy I am not complaining.

Re: Sharpening Specialized Spyderco Blades
It is always hard to admit a bit of cheating. For knives like the Kris I use the WE with just the corners of the stones accepting slightly different angles along the edge. Afterwards I just use the Sharpmaker to keep it sharp for a while. Same procedure for recurves. Never did the Captain or the Dod...

Re: DPS Angles for popular Spyderco knives?
I doubt the variety in angles between specific knives or models is by design.
So I don't think maintaining the original angles offers any special benefits over re-profiling apart from removing the least amount of steel to keep them sharp.

CF ZDP-189 Stretch
Even though I can carry about a 100 other knives it has been my main EDC for years and I doubt it will ever stop being my main EDC.

Re: Is the Delica4 "too perfect"?
I like to believe there are thousands out there that did just that and if they ever lose it they will buy another. Maybe bought a Sharpmaker at some point. Gifted some to family and friends and lived happily ever after knowing their knife needs fulfilled. Didn't happen to me obviously. At least not ...

Re: Proposal: Spyderco Midtechs
It seems to me it would be a deviation from the core philosophy of the company to make the best working knives. I am also not sure that there would be a high demand for knives at for instance $800 MSRP with polished blades and golden stand offs.

Re: This place needs a revamp
It has happened before and it will happen again that someone or some people try to disrupt this excellent forum and things get heated for a while. I guess there still is an ignore button somewhere. Otherwise you can just try to remember you don't have to take the obvious bait. Being completely ignor...

Re: Problems Sharpening Sage 1 with Sharpmaker
First step to solving your problem is knowing what you are actually doing now and why what you are doing now isn't sharpening your knife. Using a sharpie and preferably some magnification should be able to tell you where the rod hits the edge if at all. Staying on the brown rods on 20 dps should eve...

Re: Warranty Void Question: Why no Disassembly Allowed?
Voiding your warranty by disassembling your knife, failing to reassemble it properly and sending it in is still the only way to get the official hand signed "You are an idiot" Spyderco sticker. An absolute collectors item and well worth voiding your warranty to begin with. Disassembling yo...

Re: deciding factors on which knife to buy
I used to buy knives mainly based on design. Just to find out what the knife was about. It left me with many knives I like but rarely if ever use. Nowadays I buy only a few knives a year and try to focus on knives that are different form the ones I have and I will at least try to carry and use. So p...

Re: Pricing...huh?
I remember from a discussion during an Amsterdam meet that contouring handles can increase the price significantly. Not sure if it is the only reason for difference in price between these models but it could very well be. It is also at least one of the reasons some other models are relatively more e...

Re: Spyderco's Legendary "IN HOUSE" Blade Designs
The in house designs are iconic modern pocket knives. I always liked the almost forgotten Renegade and Blackhawk, would like to see a Sprint of these two classics. Especially the Renegade is still an awesome design that in my completely biased opinion deserves a modernized comeback. Hourglass pocket...
