Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!

Is there a consensus about how to sharpen that thing? I remember KaseKnives suggesting stropping with high grid diamond lapping papers. While this might be good for maintaining the edge, I suspect it is not feasible to fix the chips or alter the secondary bevel angle. I sharpen it on 3-4 overlapped...

Re: Which spyderco is in the mail?

A second Enuff 2 VG10 serrated. First one is for use, this one is for safe keeping lol. Probably my favorite knife that came out in the last 2-3 years. Loved the Enuff 1 salt, but the blade length was a bit in the way for what I was using it for (fishing, hunting and a bit of food prep on tough thin...

Re: Model request: Enuff in S7 steel

I honestly don't see the point of S7 in a knife this small and for what it can be used. I'd much rather have Magnacut as a steel option. I've never had issues with serrations "snapping off" due to lack of toughness ever, from S30V and LC200N, to VG-10 and H1. VG10 already is more than toug...

I use Victorinox Multitool Oil. Its cheap, easily available, and its food grade. Can't ask for more. Zero issues with rust ever since I started using it.

New groundbreaking alloy that would be a great addition to the Mule team line

Ahem. So Sal, when do we get a Mule out of this material? Would smacking this edge to edge into an elastic ceramic mule create a black hole? :') :fearful-face

Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!

I tried 1 micron on a leather strop and had very little success. Also tried vitrified diamond stones and You need a middle ground between too hard and too soft. A diamond stone will micro chip this material. Leather is too soft and seems to round the apex. I believe this is why my sharpening on pap...

Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!

I definitely had the same impression. The super lightweight printed handles also add to the feeling of lightness. When you first pick them up they almost feel 'cheap' but the cutting performance is fantastic. I'd love to get a paring knife in HIC. Which is also why I think something like a Dragonfl...

Re: Differences in corrosion resistance between analog steels

Heat treatment alone on the same steel makes a higher difference in corrosion resistance than any other two different stainless steels with similar makeup. A D2 steel blade that's been heat treated for corrosion resistance to have as much chromium in solution will resist corrosion significantly bett...

Re: Would you purchase a Spyderco Kitchen Knife in LC200N?

I like low edge angles and high hardness in the kitchen. Corrosion isn't an issue for my style of use and care. It can be a bonus, hence why I appreciate it in high impact ceramic, S110V/Vanax etc., but it isn't something important to me. There are way better steels that Spyderco uses which would fi...

Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!

I did some more digging into what this ceramic actually is, and using the table downloaded from the producer's site, and a bit of translation/search, this is what I found out. It's something called Tetragonal Zirconia Polycrystal (TZP), which is zirconia (Zr02) reinforced with Yttria (Y2O3), which i...

Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!

I received mine too yesterday! :winking-tongue Two Shark M designs, one for testing and one for regular use. I like the fit and finish overall, I just wish the handle material was less rubbery but that's just a personal thing after using micarta and G10 for so long. Good balance. In hand it kinda fe...

Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!

they cut on ceramic plates, pans, etc. A diamond edge would get blunt too on a diamond plate. It's just how physics works. If that type of cutting happens a lot, get some of those cheap steak knives with the crappy style of serration that KINDA work. For non-knife people, they're good enough and th...

Re: Elastic Ceramic

And didn't Roman say that the material was developed by BU anyway? Its developed and made to spec by these guys, also a Swiss native manufacturer. https://en.bsq-tech.com/high-impact-ceramic Seems to be a mixture of Zirconium Oxide and Alumina. The difference in type and size of their specific crys...

Re: Spydies all over Chicago PD

My guess is that one of the producers, etc., is a huge fan, and gave each cast member one, maybe told them to "use their Spydie" when the script calls for a knife to be used. Kudos to Jason Beghe (Sgt. Voight) for using the Spydie the most often (diff. models, too, I believe). He's "...

According to the Spydiewiki, it was made in the late 1990s to early 2000s. http://www.spydiewiki.com/index.php?title=C36_Military
More precisely, his model was made from 1998 to 2001.
