Re: Did Spyderco introduce "Super Steel"?

Beat per post above. Was going to say my favorite advertising mumbojumbo was “surgical stainless” whatever that means.

Re: Lost Knife, Almost Always a Favorite

I had a small Sebenza lost deep in a couch for two years. Searched couch at least once but found during a deep clean some time later. It will likely show up some day but go ahead and get a replacement either way

mine also rusts, and i also noticed the edge degradation, but keeping it oiled makes all the difference. just tested and still shaves after months in the drawer
I have started oiling my K390 blades for this reason as well (edge degradation via corrosion). I don’t use for food prep so non issue.

Re: New lake knife

Not for poking holes, but a thin tip passes through material more easily than a thick tip. It's something I appreciate as a whittler. I considered posting "yet somehow I've never managed to break one of those fragile tips" but as you say, it is a real concern for those concerned. I have managed to ...

Re: New lake knife

The magnacut Chief is my beach knife and also gets carried quite a bit when home.

Any play does not register with me but i am not looking per se. (nerve have noticed in normal use)

I am quite happy with it

The deer got too bad in my suburban neighborhood. I need to come up with some options fence wise. Have a 15 x 15 plot of good soil that I developed by amending for several years until the population of deer exploded about 10 years ago

James -
Stop kick was referred to as dragon kick where I trained. Agree is dangerously effective.
Trained from 89-96 in knung fu and Arnis.

My daughter who is soon to be 16 started BJJ for almost a year but joined the HS wrestling team and now focuses on that.
Was not aware that wrestling teams ...

Sorry to hear.
I just finished radiation for prostate. Was not too bad all in all but did not need chemo. Prostate is very treatable so seemed like a no brainer.

Please do your research on outcomes before refusing treatment.

Why coat magnacut. Aesthetics only?

Seemes redundant from a corrosion standpoint but I am genuinely curious.

Without the purchase of consumer goods there would be many more starving children in the world. That guy lacks a basic understanding of economics and is guilty of another of the sins - Pride. He basically told you he is superior to you through his virtue signaling. I have little tolerance for those ...

Re: Steeltoez83 testing log

Steel,

What steel is most similar to Spy 27 in your testing? Overall thoughts on this steel?

I believe is in a similar class as other s series steels (from a Larin article if memory is correct) but curious as to your take after testing.

I appreciate your posts!

ETA am enjoying my Native Chief ...

Re: Do I really need a Sage 5 if I already own a Para 3

I prefer my sage 5 over my para 3 - I have Rex and spy sage 5s in FRN and carry the Spy frequently these days.

Very similar models as others have pointed out.
Get one and try it out.

Thanks scandi! Explained better than I could.

I am indeed on a fixed angle system and my only non guided work is on a strop or my cheap 1X30 harbor freight for convex edges on some of my blades.

Hats off to those who have freehand sharpening down! I have a hard enough time on my guided/fixed ...

Jmf

The edges coming from spyderco these days are pretty crazy. I have had a wicked edge for two years and have a hard time matching. Not trying to discourage you but just saying that some of these edges set a high bar for initial sharpness.

I am still learning though and no master by any ...

Delica comes to mind first but I have had one since the mid 90s
I am afraid that I can’t narrow down other two. Would be 4-5 others than I could not chose between. Sage 5, stretch and stretch XL, military, PM2, most any variation of the FRN K390 including endela and police…..I will stop there but ...

Satin would be a go for me. I generally don’t like coated blades but I am not as opposed as I once was. I have a stretch 2 XL in PD 1 that is coated and dig it.

There is no right answer. Delica is probably too small for many

Endela was what I carried today. Stretch 2 is prob my favorite out of those mentioned but I have not had my police long enough to get a good feel for.
