Re: Show your Mule

If you have a standing belt sander or a grinder you could shorten both the screw and nut to fit, taking a little at a time. It needs to be a finer grit (120 max) either way and you will have to debur once you have shortened so the threads will not be messed up. That way you can order a little long a...

Re: Show your Mule

Hi Tarheelpwr, I have NOT DONE what you are looking to do, however I have seen it done. you will want to do a fastener that sometimes goes by the name of a Chicago screw, which is a screw and nut that have similar heads on them. You will probably want to countersink the heads so they do not stick in...

Re: Show your Mule

Xplorer,
very nice as always.
Seeing your work is what inspired me to try my hand at it.
Its funny you posted up that knife as I was just contemplating doing a piece
of Shokwood with a blend in a curve similar to what you did there.

Hmmm, may have to think of something new now. Ha, ha.

Re: Show Your Patina!

Thanks Woodpuppy, Like I said this one is the guinney pig so having it come out in the end was a pleasant experience. I have to say I was inspired by other members on here like 91bravo and Newtons amongst many others, there are some extraordinary blades on here. I will post a couple more pictures of...

Re: Show Your Patina!

I am kind of cross pollinating here. This is my latest Mule team that I did. The Patina was a lot of experimenting and honestly at one point I was ready to pitch it. But I kept experimenting until I got something I liked. I started with Grapefruit cut into tiny squares. When that was too light, I tr...

Re: Show your Mule

So the latest knife is a bit of a diversion from the others. This one uses no Shokwood but embraces a tough laminate material, known as Dymalux. The color I chose is Coffee. In another twist I chose to experiment with this blade and do a Patina on it. I am still using the PMA11 steel which is a carb...

Re: Show your Mule

Thanks Meat Man, These Mules are addictive. And I have lots of people that like the finished product so they just keep coming. I have at least 2 more in the near future that I will be doing. The first one is a Patina'd blade with Laminate scale to it, and then the wifes Which should be really sharp ...

Re: Show your Mule

Here is the latest knife. A friend called me last week and asked if I could do a knife for his dad's birthday. I said sure and asked when it was. He told me and it worked out to 2 days later. I kind of laughed and said I could do it but we would be late for his birthday. So I put in some OT so to sp...

Re: Show your Mule

So I have done a couple more knives since my last visit and have at least 3 more to do in the near future. Here are some of the newly completed pair along with a couple pics with the first one. I started carrying my Mule and a few people have asked how much to make one. I shot them a number and they...

Re: Show your Mule

Well after a few days of glueing, First the G10 to the Shokwood, then drilling the scales for pins, and yesterday gluing the scales on. Today I got to start the shaping process. I told myself I would not get in a hurry but once I started I could not quit until it was done today. http://i98.photobuck...

Re: Show your Mule

So I am a new member here. I just bought my first Mule Team. I just received an MT26 with A11. I love the fact that Spyderco has provided so many excellent steels for this knife. So not only is this my first MT it is also the first knife I am doing a handle for. So in my personal fashion I am going ...
