Re: Para 3 exclusive at River's Edge Cutlery
It seems like a very reasonable price for a 204p Para 3 with a coated blade. However the color is a bit strange. It's like a tribute to camouflage? I don't think OD green and FDE are generally used together, one being a jungle/foliage color and the other a desert color. I suppose the black hardware ...

Re: Ideas for revamped mule team
But since there would be less of whatever exotic steel in a folder, the cost of blade material would be less per knife. I am only speculating, but I get the impression the raw steel is not the main factor in cost. I suspect the time finishing and heat treating is. I made a spreadsheet at one point ...

Re: Ideas for revamped mule team
Just a peanut gallery opinion, but it seems like folders would be much more divisive. Ignoring the blade length, shape, and grind, people have different opinions on tip up/down, lock type, lefty-friendlyness, whether it should be free swinging/flipping or have a strong self close. Some people hate c...

Re: What do you want to see more of from Spyderco?
Personally I'd like to see more US-made models. Though I appreciate the recent release of the Para 3 and Lil Natives, and realize that's a pretty big addition to the number of models made in Golden. I also wish they made more fixed blades here. Right now the Pygmy Warrior is the only one, and it has...

Re: Most stainless steels aside from H1 and LC200N
If I were to guess, which is all it is, I'd think it would be the more pedestrian steels like VG-10 and BD1?

Rock Salt impression
I've been using my Rock Salt a bit and figured I'd post my impressions. I had a hard time finding much info about them before I bought it. I don't want to suggest my feedback fills that void, and I don't want to call it a review as I just used it for things that needed doing, not to evaluate it. But...

Re: Crazy deals @ Sierra and other places
I want to replace my Dragonfly, but it's under the minimum spend. Do I just get something else too? Just in case anyone didn't do the math. The 15% coupon makes more sense above $100 (and of course is the only choice between $25-75). So you have to land between $75 and $100 to get the extra savings...

Re: Crazy deals @ Sierra and other places
Not only is that link for the stainless police, but a $102 Police 4 is nowhere to be found. :( Sorry, I'm not that familiar with the police model. If someone said they wanted an endura 4, the handle material wouldn't really factory in to any endura currently for sale being a 4. It would be quite ra...

Re: Lefty-friendly knives please
However, some of these not lefty-friendly knives are confusingly tapped for "ambi" carry: I'd just point out, one does not have to be a lefty to want clip holes drilled on both sides. I am right handed, but carry knives almost exclusively in my left pocket. I also carry them with the blad...

Taking the low end of each %, that is only 58.9% iron! Just thought that was interesting.

Re: Steel and other changes as CQI?
If you care that much you can call up your dealer and ask. I'm not sure most people know to ask. In the specific example I mentioned, Massdrop showed it as S35VN. Even Spyderco's website still lists the Native LW as S35VN. Every dealer I've looked at also shows it as S35VN. What would cause a poten...

Steel and other changes as CQI?
I've noticed on a few forums, people disappointed with the most recent Massdrop Native blue box. What was mentioned was that they felt they were buying an S35VN knife, but received on in S30V, and this was perceived as a downgrade. I definitely don't have the most Spyderco knowledge or history, but ...

Re: Manix Backlock Sprint poll
I've been looking to get something in CTS-204p. No real reason other than I don't have one and it seems interesting. The Manix is the only knife I own in multiple steels, so I'd likely buy it in this configuration. I'd consider CPM-20cv, but have a lot of Crucible steel knives. I doubt I'd buy it in...

That is interesting. Hopefully I'll never need to, but will try pushing the metal back if it happens again. It's also interesting to see people using the rock salt. I couldn't find much feedback on them.

Re: rolling vs. chipping
Maybe a butcher's steel would've worked. You move the edge into a steel, just like with a sharpening stone, right? That's my understanding anyway. Vs a strop where you drag the edge away from the leather. I guess I'd think a steel would still just knock it off, unless it's common to move the edge t...

Re: rolling vs. chipping
I just rolled H1 yesterday when I accidentally hit barbed wire when cutting back vines: https://i.imgur.com/TOKEbaT.jpg Picture is via 10x loupe. It's hard to get a phone lined up where it's clear and actually 10x, but this picture was better than with no magnification. I recall in a video about the...

Re: Lube behind natural G10
Has anybody else experienced this with their natural G10 scales on any knife? If so, does it eventually dry up and disappear or will I need to remove the scales and clean it up? Yup, definitely got that when I lubed my M2 in M4/natural. Also from loctite in the factory pocket clip location when I s...

Re: Sunday is Spyderday
https://i.imgur.com/GBZmEUJ.jpg This wasn't my Sunday this week, but feels like about 50% of my Sundays involve me cleaning up deadfall and such. The Rock Salt is nice for hanging vines and such that are hard to chop with a hatchet. I'm sure a longer and heavier chopper would be easier, but it woul...
