Re: Crazy deals @ Sierra and other places
It used to be anything goes on Amazon spyderco pricing and it's not anymore. Spyderco has commented extensively in the past about Amazon and MAP and they do have to comply. Does everyone always comply with MAP? No Interesting. I can't say I've noticed that trend changing. As an example, the blue an...

Re: Crazy deals @ Sierra and other places
From all third-hand info, I believe if you get Amazon to distribute your product, you agree to some range of price fluctuation. I can not imagine Amazon agreeing to respect MAP pricing with any company. Their pricing algorithms are part of what makes their business successful (at least in terms of m...

Re: Sal, why is the Delica grinded so thick behind the edge ?
I'm not an edge nut exactly. However, the basic geometry could go something like this. Say you start out with 2.5mm by I dunno, 25mm blade stock. A full flat grind simply means the primary grind goes the whole way down the blade stock at a consistent angle. If you made two knives, you could grind o...

Re: Crazy deals @ Sierra and other places
In looking for 500Nitro's question, I noticed Lanbo's Armory has the Bushcraft for $177.50 and the Stree Beat LW and Street Bowie each at $83.50. Shipping is not included, but I believe it's around $10 for one to many knives. The Bushcraft before shipping is cheaper than an eBay 20% coupon and after...

Re: Favorite Spyderco for Cutting Cardboard?
I've mainly used the native 5 in s90v and the Manix 2 LW in XHP. They both cut easily through even double thick cardboard. The Manix is better due to the larger handle and longer blade. I can cut less carefully through a long length with the angle changing and the blade won't come out of the cardboa...

Re: Sharpmaker bar keepers friend
The liquid can require pretty vigorous shaking though to get the grit to come out vs just liquid, especially if you don't use it often.

Re: Sharpmaker bar keepers friend
The liquid BKF works as well, FYI. Sounds like the powder is preferred, but if you already had the liquid or it's all you can find, it's worked fine for me. I just use my fingers to work it into the rods, and they clean up well.

Re: Sal, why is the Delica grinded so thick behind the edge ?
It would appear that the angle of the flat grind and subsequent thickness at the edge depends directly on the height of the piece ground given the widths are the same. Only if it were a zero grind. Two pieces of identical height and width could be ground to different thicknesses behind the edge in ...

Re: Sal, why is the Delica grinded so thick behind the edge ?
How do you make the primary FFG any thinner given a set thickness and height? I must not understand geometry too well. I'm not an edge nut exactly. However, the basic geometry could go something like this. Say you start out with 2.5mm by I dunno, 25mm blade stock. A full flat grind simply means the...

Re: Deal thread for non-Spydercos?
Actually no, it's not just you :) I wouldn't post "Hey, they have an amazing deal on that new Kawasaki" in a Yamaha forum.. I think the point has been made. But in the spirit of discussion, what do you think of discussing Kawasaki's in a Yamaha forum? Assuming I have some standard forum v...

Re: Deal thread for non-Spydercos?
True, but therr's still the question of whether common decency should prevent someone from coming into one company's place of business to advertise bargains on a competitor's products. I know I'd have a rather low opinion of an individual that did that, but that's just me. Deal removed. I'll just l...

Deal thread for non-Spydercos
I'm sure many of you have and like knives besides your Spydercos. I searched back several pages as well as using the actual search, and couldn't find an existing thread to add a deal to. Is this an appropriate topic for this forum?

Re: Done with Zero Tolerance
That's why I own a ZT 0562, which has one of the thinnest grinds they offer. It's a shame that ZT was started a premium "hard use" brand rather than just a premium brand. KAI's Shun kitchen knives, and even their base model KAI branded kitchen knives, are thin and slicey. I wish they'd ap...

Re: Memorial Day Sale?
With the eBay deal (code PMEMDAY 15% off on some spydies) I started poking around some best offer knifes. A seller accepted and I now have a Jump Master 2 on the way for $114 shipped after promo. How did you determine what sellers participated in the promo? Did you just keep adding products to your...

Re: Memorial Day Sale?
I just checked one of my favorite sellers on Ebay (bigfishbuddy), and he is offering his Spyderco selection for 15% off until Monday. I could buy a Shaman (stonewash) for 150 bucks... or a pm2 fully serrated for 100. It is very tempting, does anyone else know of any other sales going on this weeken...

Re: Done with Zero Tolerance
I'm tired of reprofiling crazy thick edges, tired of maintaining ball bearing on these "hard use" knives, and tired of worring about cutting my fingers from lock failure on these knives with 5% lockup. The Spydercos I could buy with the money would perform in a far superior manner. Anyone...

Re: Smith and Wesson.
FWIW, your comment on the model 19 weight definitely surprised me. S&W does show that it is almost as heavy as the 686. I checked Ruger and his Guns and they list the weight of the 4" Security Six at 33.5 oz. My recollection was guns like the Model 13 and Model 10 were a couple ounces light...
