Re: USA made models,...

I'm proud that Spyderco has so many models that are made in the good ole US. Now I love all Spyderco's especially my Seki City and Taiwan models. Makes me proud though that the majority (I believe) are USA made. Just sayin. Don't get me wrong, I wish the US was the most, but it's not, basically bec...

Re: Why not more knives with compression lock?

It's not a very secure lock, at least on the PM2. That's why I never got into the PM2. S'pose not if you use the spine of the knife like a hammer. But what if it happens nonetheless? The only reason spine-whacking is controversial is because of shills. They invested their emotions and eg...

Re: Para 3 S110V shaving sharp

1. You are giving advice that directly counters Sal, the manufacturer, who I would guess has a tad more experience in this field than you, and whose word certainly carries more weight here. Sal raised the issues on your lapping protocol previously. 2. Personal insults against members won't get you ...

Regarding actual s110v the topic of this post. I would like to know your outcome hence when mine starts to get the least bit dull it gets stropped immediately. Let us know if you can get it to the point that your looking for hence that is one rock hard steel. What are you stropping with? You can ea...

Re: ranking toughest / least chippy steels

Here is my guess...but i have no idea. I assume 3V and 4V would be #1 and #2 if they ever decide to grant my wish and make these! 1. Cruwear 2. M4 3. CTS-XHP 4. S35VN 5. M390 6. CTS-204P 7. 52100 8. S90V 9. S30V 10. S110V Also wondering where LC200N and PD-1 would fall? Assuming maybe middle for LC...

Re: Sal, what are the chances for a AEB-L spydie ?

CPM-Cruwear and AEB-L just because they have superb balance of properties and very good edge stability. Marius FYI, those are two radically different steels. Cruwear was a product of the Crucible marketing campaign for vanadium over chromium. It still has about as much carbon as S35vn, which is a l...

Re: Para 3 S110V shaving sharp

I was implying that post counts are meaningless. Too bad that flew right over your head. It's good that post count doesn't matter since at the rate you're going pissing everyone off you probably won't make it to 100. You enjoy the rest of your stay though. It is indeed a hard gig keeping such an en...

Re: Para 3 S110V shaving sharp

Don't bother with the sharpie, too much work. How much have you used your tri-angle rods? When was the last time you washed them? You have to clean them because the steel you're cutting off the blade inevitably gets lodged/clogged into the actual abrasive, and then the stones don't cut the steel ne...

Re: Para 3 S110V shaving sharp

More pressure is NEVER the answer when sharpening. If you had actually read what I posted, you would have noted that my comment about pressure is that as the stone clogs, the natural reaction to an otherwise unaware user is to apply more pressure. Oil helps the stone stay clear, helps remove/flush ...

Re: Spyderco's Sharpening Equipment

Keep in mind that most people here don't use their knives, they just post knife selfies. Posting a photo of a knife does not mean it's never been used, it means that person enjoys taking photos of their knives and sharing them with like-minded hobbyists. That is not a good reason to judge someone n...

Re: Why not more knives with compression lock?

Why not more knives with compression lock. Seems to me to be a great lock well designed strong and unique but there are very few knives in the catalog that use it. Just wondering why. It's not a very secure lock, at least on the PM2. That's why I never got into the PM2. https://youtu.be/6eFuENF5c08...

Re: Spyderco's Sharpening Equipment

I'm going to have to try some diamond sharpmaker rods this year. I usually use DMT bench stones for reprofile, but I'd like to see how well it works on the SM. Even if I find myself preferring the DMT still for PE knives, I know I can use the diamond rods on recurves and serrated edges at least. Us...
