Re: Lil' Temp 3 & Short Thick Blades

There are as many self defense blade designs and blades used for self defense as there are self defense theories and scenarios.

For self defense I have been carrying up to 3 knives: a neck knife, a fixed blade and a folder.

I am never without my Spyderco Native Chief on S90V.

Re: EDC Hygiene: Fixed Blade VS. Folder

Huh, many of these answers surprise me, but I guess not everybody has suffered major health problems like most of my family has. I am what I would say is not unreasonably careful about what I touch before eating. At public restaurants I don't use my hands directly to touch much. I have a premature ...

Re: This knife should be in production…My dream hunting knife put together.

I like it. What is not to like. S90V may be my all time favorite steel.

S90V - CHECK.
Deep carry pocket clip - CHECK.
Decent sized blade - CHECK.

The orange grip does not bug me, but black is better for my needs.

Good thread!

I knew that you were heavily involved in knife making, but had no idea you had all of that equipment.

Do you take orders for knives at this time?

Re: Visualizing the Tradeoff of Higher Hardness

Lets say the chart shows 500 Total Cards Cut for some particular steel. That is only 1.64042 feet. It looks like the stack of cards to be cut is being moved over a 1 inch area of the blade. Are they saying that that one inch of blade can only cut 1.64042 feet of card material? The area of the blade...

Re: Visualizing the Tradeoff of Higher Hardness

@Larrin What I am trying to find out is - if I worked for a beef packing company and was cutting beef, how many feet of material can a reasonably high wear resistance steel plain edge knife with a 20 degree to 24 degree edge, EFFORTLESSLY CUT IN FEET, and does TCC tell us this information? I realize...

Re: Visualizing the Tradeoff of Higher Hardness

When the graph says Total Cards Cut in mm, I am not sure how to visualize that. The stack of cards cut has a height in mm? I'm making an assumption here that is what the chart is showing. But the stack of cards to be cut has a width too...is it 2cm to 4cm? So the stack cut is for example, "500...

Re: Visualizing the Tradeoff of Higher Hardness

Hi Steeltoes, Was if finished? Did you use it? sal Sal, I'll just make ya one and you can test it. I thought that I would ask you. You have had time around Larrin's equipment. When the graph says Total Cards Cut in mm, I am not sure how to visualize that. The stack of cards cut has a height in mm? ...

Re: Where Artificial Intelligence Is Right Now

This is another reason why people need to get smarter and think for themselves, instead of jumping on whichever manipulative, divisive bandwagon echoes their own confirmation biases. But most people probably won't be willing or able to, because when getting all up in their emotions, the vast majori...

Re: Martial Arts Experiences Discussion Thread

Maybe knee strikes will be the next thing to be banned in UFC MMA fights. These are NOT street fights, and if you look at the rules, there is already a lot that has been banned. Back 10+ years ago when I was wracking my brain about how to decisively win street fights I download rules for fighting re...

I like the thread on drinking but I slowed my roll during the Winter. Now Summer is here and I am sure that I'll find my way to the liquor store! I posted this on Bladeforums a few days ago but I thought some of you might be interested in this as well. Many thanks to Larrin for doing all the hard work of testing steels and providing this data to the public. I just wanted to compile some of it in a different way. This graph shows the effect o...

Re: Where Artificial Intelligence Is Right Now

I've written three novels that deal with AI out of control or the misuse of AI. I am not comforted by the technology, especially considering the kinds of people involved in their programming. I wanted to see where the artificial intel systems were on the political spectrum so I asked questions to t...
