Re: Crazy Good Deals Part 2!!

Smokey Mountain Knife Works has the Hanan for $115.83. I couldn't pass up that price and I finally added Spyderco's first compression lock flipper to my collection :D

Re: Military 2. What exactly is going on?

Something along the lines of the Sage series, but using the Military as a platform? That sounds interesting. Or maybe like the Manix 2 Backlock, which coexisted with the CBBL Manix 2 until the backlock was discontinued. All that said, I actually don't own a Military. I have a Paramilitary 2 and now ...

Re: Sell me the Amalgam !

Hi Elena, as noted in one of the threads here about thickness behind the edge, it's a little difficult consistently measuring the width of angled surfaces. It's entirely possible my measuring technique was flawed. It may also be worth noting that my bte measurement was performed on a production samp...

Re: Evil's question

Thanks for the insight into your design process Sal! I very much relate to your description of having an idea and trying to refine the design into the form that best encapsulates the original vision.

I'm loving my Shaman in S90V/CF. The contouring is just fantastic.

Re: Let's get hyped for the Amalgam!

Yesterday, I had access to a Rockwell hardness tester, so of course I took apart the Amalgam I had on me to try it out. I was pleased to see a reading just over 61 HRC on my sample. Woo! 😛 IMG_20191019_144306-01-01.jpeg 10_20_19_12_58_57_IMG_20191019_144233-01.jpeg 10_20_19_12_58_57_IMG_20191019_144...

Re: Is this a grip that you use?

This is how I typically grip my knives when using them except maybe the last one...I usually hammer grip when I cut with the edge facing up. This is an interesting discussion. It's enlightening to see the different way everyone grips their knives. When I use the choil on larger knives it's usually l...

Re: Efficiency of edge types

Just curious, how are the points on the serrations in that video? Were they rounded from sharpening on the sharpmaker, or were they really pointy like on a factory fresh edge? My curiosity about serrated edges has been piqued but I still don't have a serrated edge knife of my own to try out yet (not...

Re: Police 4 LW

I'm interested in a Police4LW with K390. I'm very very tempted to pick up the VG10 version though. The Police just seems like a great large knife (I swear I don't only like large knives, but somehow it seems all the knives I've been adding to my collection recently have been somewhat large....)

Re: Suggestion on how to greatly improve the Manix 2

I agree on removing the jimping. My backlock manix feels much better. Would be even better if it had contoured scales. This exactly. My only gripe on the Manix2 backlock was the thicker handle combined with the near elimination of the chamfering on the handle edges. If it had chamfering or other co...

Re: Suggestion on how to greatly improve the Manix 2

The Manix2 lockback definitely felt super-refined in comparison to the regular Manix2. I think the lack of jimping and the solid backspacers contributed largely to that feeling, as they gave the spine of the handle a large smooth surface that felt great to grip.

Re: New releases on the App

The Siren and straight spine Stretch are real lookers and must-haves! I really liked the feel of the Siren. Very classic lines, symmetrical and ergonomic handle for a truly ambi experience, sleek with no hump on the spine....I think this is going to be a winner.

Re: September 11, 2001: Never Forget!

I remember my parents had the news on the TV that morning as they were rushing to get me to class. That day, all the teachers kept the radio on during class to keep the students updated. There was some uncertainty as to how many planes had been hijacked and what all their intended targets were, and ...

Re: Do you immediately sharpen a new Spyderco?

I typically use a factory edge until it's dull or chipped, then I'll sharpen/reprofile the edge to my liking. The exception is if the knife comes dull or with horrendously uneven bevels...my OCD wants the edge to be sharp and to look at least somewhat competently put on :p
