Were you cutting the kevlar or the "stitches". Are you saying tha the blade was damaged by the cotton/nylon thread or from coming in contact with the protective material?

You can fly into New York with your knife. Just take a legal knife and put it in your checked luggage. I travel all year...domestic and international and I have never had a problem.
