That's a shame. I loved many of his designs.

Most complaints I see about FRN are about how it feels cheap. I guess because it's plastic and light.
Yes, that's my issue. I'm not a hard user, and my knives are mostly pocket jewelry, so I'm focused on the aesthetics over the functionality.

Re: Let’s talk about Manbugs

I want another G-10 type Manbug. I don't particularly care what steel is chosen, as long as the scales are G-10, micarta, or carbon fiber. I just despise FRN.

Re: The Pain of Parting with Knives

I’ve definitely sold some over the years that I regret (I’m looking at you numbered Lum titanium tanto and titanium ATR), but I just remind myself that I had a reason. Not necessarily a good one, but a reason. It’s usually been because I get bored and shift back and forth among a handful of hobbies ...

Re: With all the knowledge on edge geometry out there, why are factory edges still so common?

I simply don't care about sharpening. I work in an office and my knives are more pocket jewelry than tools. I enjoy them more for what they are than what they do. I might actually cut something with my pocket knife once a month. Might. So, my original factory edges last for years. Also, I'm one of ...

Re: Let's revisit the Tatanka

I kind of regret not buying one, but that's probably just because they're no longer available. I'd never carry the thing. I learned that lesson many years ago with the REKAT Sifu. Bought a couple and they just sat in the drawer and were ultimately sold. I'm happier with knives half that size now.

Re: Office Workers: What do you EDC?

If you're limiting this to Spydercos, it's the Techno 2, but it's actually the small 21 insingo micarta Sebenza that's usually in my pocket.

I'd like to see something with leather inlays, similar to what CRK did with the Sebenza many years ago.

Re: Love for the little guys

I actually prefer small knives. I absolutely love my Techno 2, and am surprisingly fond of my Emerson Dragonfly, despite the FRN scales (I generally hate FRN). I also greatly regret selling my G10 Manbug. I’d love to see that, and the micarta Jester, be rereleased one day.

How do you like the CBBL then? (Assumed you have tried one (yet), which practically means some Manix variant)

I like it. It’s my preferred Spyderco lock.

Re: Compression Lock vs. Axis Lock: Optimization and Limitations in Extreme Conditions

I like Spyderco more as a company, and have owned more Spydies than Benchmades, but I strongly prefer the Axis lock. The compression lock just doesn’t work for me, ergonomically.

I don't know for sure but I'm pretty sure it's that heavy blade whacking into the pin when peope flick them open.
That may well be it. That blade is certainly a hefty chunk of metal.

Re: Spyderco Paysan stop pin issue

I wonder how common this problem is with the Paysan? Mine doesn't (yet) have it, fortunately, but I've seen 2 or 3 now that do. Is it something with the shape of the handle, or the integral design, that's causing it? Is it something that only develops with regular use?

And that right there is one of the reasons why Spyderco is consistently one of my favorites. What other prominent knife company founder routinely engages with the customers/fans like Sal does? It makes a difference.

Re: Random: General Spydie Chat

My personal feelings on spyderco, and to kinda sum it up short, things have changed in the last decade or so. I miss the days of dinosaur bone kiwis, black micarta calypsos, Ed shempp Persians, titanium ATR’s, crickets, kopas, dragonflies.

I completely agree. It seems to me that much of the ...

90% of the time, I carry a small micarta insingo Sebenza 21. If I want even less weight though, it's an Emerson Dragonfly.

Polished G10 feels significantly more premium than textured/peel ply and moulded frn.
I definitely agree. My Darn Dao has the polished G10, and it just looks and feels amazing. It's one of the nicest Spydercos I've ever owned.

Re: Now I get it

I think a large part of the differing opinions on FRN versus G10, metal, etc. has to do with the reason a person generally carries a knife. If I were constantly using my knives as tools, I might well favor FRN and constantly be chasing the next big steel, but I don't. My use is light office carry ...
