Re: Happy Birthday "Dr. Hannibal Lecter M.D."

My Dear Friends,

Very sincere thanks to you - it has been a crazy busy one for me at work today.

That said, how very appropriate that today is National Knife Day... ;-)

My Dear Friend,

They are indeed - they're designed to be wicked slashers, which is facilitated by a thinner blade. I have owned Civis and Matriarchs both, and they excel at that task. :D

Re: Hawkbill Blades: Small vs Bigger? general uses?

My Dear Friend, I thought the Matriarch was designed to be a more user safe Civilian, with a thicker tip that's less likely to break. There is of course the chance it has been re-engineered in recent years with the thicker tip you're describing - it would make it a much more useful EDC knife if that...

Re: Hawkbill Blades: Small vs Bigger? general uses?

My Dear Friend, I just ordered a Matriarch which is in the same family-ish as a Hawkbill. I have no idea what the **** I am going to use this one for. :D Yup, I am shallow and always wanted one and my wife also thought the all black with Wave model was cool. Any use case recommendations beyond viole...

Re: Hawkbill Blades: Small vs Bigger? general uses?

My Dear JD, Echoing some of the above, to me, anyway, hawkbills are a somewhat unusual blade shape, at least compared to more mainstream profiles (drop point, clip point, etc.). People with little or no exposure to them often aren't quite sure what to make of them, or what their utility could be. Pl...

Re: Now's the time: For a New Hawkbill!!!

My Dear Fellow, I'm glad to see that you newer guys are latching on to Hawkbill models and I guess the Byrd models are a good one to start with. But trust me it won't be long you'll be craving a Spyderhawk or a Harpy when you decide to step up the ladder of these great models  HAWKBILL NATION!...

Re: Happy Birthday: Dr. Hannibal Lecter M.D.

My Dear JD,

A very sincere thank you to you, my friend!

I am actually at work today, taking Friday off in lieu to spend with the family.

The Spyderco in my pocket today is my beloved yellow FRN Tasman Salt PE.

Re: Now's The Time: For A New Hawkbill II

My Dear Friend, I feel like I'm in the minority here, preferring plain edge. I have a plain edge Tasman. I give it 5 swipes per side on the 40 degree medium stones on the sharpmaker after a day of use and it shaves and slices better than any knife I have. I may be wrong but i can't imagine SE would ...

Re: Now's The Time: For A New Hawkbill II

My Dear JD,

Here's a thought for you, old friend - how about a Spyderco H-1 hawkbill with a Snap-It or Remote Release configuration? THAT would be insanely useful for me, ideally in a Snap-It configuration.

Re: Now's The Time: For A New Hawkbill II

My Dear Friends, I finally managed to pick up an H-1 Spyderco Spyderhawk PE again with the FRN Yellow handles and am EDC'ing that beast in place of my beloved Tasman Salt for a while. I had actually hoped for an SE version, but I was fortunate to get the PE version at a decent price so I shan't comp...

Re: Skeletonized Knives: Your opinions/thoughts?

My Dear Friend, I just remembered I have an old Beretta Airlight that was given to me years ago. I never really carried or used it but it's an interesting knife. It really is extremely light for its size. Not my knife but it's just like this. https://s3.amazonaws.com/mgm-content/sites/armslist/uploa...

Re: Negligent discharge

My Dear Friend, Maybe I am missing something, but why would anyone be loading, unloading, or dry-firing a firearm indoors? Dry-firing indoors in not unusual - it's a cheap way to practice the fundamentals (trigger control, etc.) without the expense of going to the range and firing live ammunition. M...

Re: Skeletonized Knives: Your opinions/thoughts?

My Dear Friends, I don't mind skeletonized blades, as I feel they reduce the weight of the knife. As for the handles, I despise skeletonization. I have a Gerber Paraframe PS (it was a gift - long story) in my vehicle as a last-resort knife that I can't stand to carry largely because of the skeletoni...

Re: Negligent discharge

My Dear Friends, First and foremost, I am very glad that their were no injuries. I have been present for several negligent discharges; two cases were a failure to read the manual/understand the mechanism and one was a failure to follow directions. I have been handling firearms since I was about 8 ye...

Re: Spyderco Tasman Salt - From August 2005 Until Now...

My Very Dear JD, Being Spyderco has certainly become the "standard bearer" for serrated blades you would think with all those SE Hawkbill models they had over the years that they would actually feel as though serrated Hawkbill blades ( particularly the Harpy) would become one of their prem...

Re: Now's The Time: For A New Hawkbill II

The NC A...
